This is basically the same problem as the RROD fault, you have to remove the X-Clamps on the processors, using M5 screws instead and re-apply thermal transfer paste, once the hardware mods are done it needs to be either reflowed (ideally but most people don't have the facilities to do this!) or overheated, i'm doing a full write up tip on this tonight, check it out tomorrow!

How do I get sound from my Xbox to my monitor via a hdmi lead - DVD lead

As far as I know, the DVI cable can't send sound, so if you could use a only-HDMI cable or SCART cable, that should give you both picture and sound.

I was playing cod 5 on my xbox picture quality rapidly deteriorated so i turned it off when i turned it back on i had no picture and no sound through hdmi lead so i tryed standard lead i had sound but no...

Could be something as simple as the wrong settings on the TV/360. Also it could be an internal issue, generally associated with the (H) ANA chip (the chip responsible for E74) as it handles the video output. If it's not the settings, and if the console is under warranty send it in to MS. If not, find a reputable person to help you out.
In any case you will more than likely have an E74 console very, very soon.

When i turn my xbox on i get no picture but i can hear it works in the background . i have tried changing leads but no luck . any ideas??

This is a common fault with the 360, it says that its a "general hardware
failure" which could mean anything
really. In truth its the lead free solder that cracks with so much heat
and as a result the Xbox 360 fails
causing the 3rrod (3 red rings of death) or e74 or even no sound but
graphics or sound and no graphics just like you are reporting.

Firstly get a spare AV cable from someone else, try this, if that does
the same then try a different SCART
input on the TV. if all this fails you need to fix your machine as it
WILL get worse

You will need to get a 3rrod repair kit or get someone to fix it for you,
there are guides available on the
internet. I'm in the middle of producing one right now that I will make
available free of charge for all fixya
members.

My xbox 360 will start up and has sound but no picture

First try removing any accessories (for eg HD drive, hard drive or network adaptor) from the console and turn on 360. Plug each device back in one by one and turn on to check which device possibly causing the problem.

You should also try using another 360 AV cable sometimes this is the culprit.

If the above methods made no difference then the Xbox 360 might be overheating and which will eventually lead to RROD (Red Ring Of Death - 3 red ligthts) or E74 error message (1 red light) indicating repair.

You can buy the repair kit off ebay from £4 - £7 and carry out the repairs yourself with plenty of Youtube videos on the net just google it or if dont dont feel confident i can repair for you.

If this helps please vote...thankyou!

Picture will not show

You might want to try the following:

1. make sure that the AV cable is not loose or incorrectly seated in both the Xbox 360 console and the TV
2. make sure that you have the correct AV cable for your TV, to verify that the AV cable is connected correctly to the Xbox 360 console and to the TV, disconnect the AV cable and then reconnect the AV cable to both devices
3. if you are using composite cables, do not try to set any HDTV settings because you may lose the picture
4. make sure that your TV is set to the same video broadcast system as your Xbox 360 console (PAL or NTSC)
Example:
- if your Xbox 360 console is an NTSC console, make sure that your TV supports NTSC
- if your Xbox 360 console is a PAL console, set your PAL settings to PAL 60
- if your TV has a type of picture compensation enabled, disable it
5. reset your Xbox 360 console
- Remove any discs from the disc tray
- Turn off the console
- Turn on the console
- As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time
- The Xbox Dashboard resets the display settings to the default settings and then automatically restarts the console.
6. Do not take your Xbox 360 console or its accessories to your retailer for repair or for service unless an Xbox Customer Support representative asks you to do this

Xbox 360 Console, Faulty, NO DISPLAY!!??

What do you mean, no display? Is is game-related display issues? Have you checked the AV cable connection? Or is it about the settings? Is this the first time that you are going to connect your xbox console?

To determine whether the display issues are specific to a particular game, try playing a different game to see whether the same symptom occurs. Reminder, some Xbox original games that were released for the original Xbox console may show some display issues when you play them on the Xbox 360 console.

Next, make sure that AV cable is connected correctly to the Xbox 360 console and to the TV. To verify that the AV cable is connected correctly to the Xbox 360 console and to the TV, you can disconnect the AV cable and then reconnect the AV cable to both devices. Note: If you are using composite cables, do not try to set any HDTV settings. If you try to set HDTV settings, you may lose the picture.

You might also want to check your TV's settings because some display issues can be caused by how the TV is set up. To make sure that this is not the case, please check your TV's settings.

In your TV's settings, you should check the following:
- Make sure that your TV is set to the same video broadcast system as your Xbox 360 console (PAL or NTSC)
- If your Xbox 360 console is a PAL console, set your PAL settings to PAL 60
- If your TV has a type of picture compensation enabled, disable it
- If your TV's settings are correct, you may want to try using a different TV, if you have one available. Try connecting your Xbox 360 console to another TV to see whether the same display issues occur

Next, reset your Xbox 360 console. To reset the display settings to the default settings, follow these steps:
1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
2. Turn off the console.
3. Turn on the console.
4. As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time.

Sound but no picture

Check the A/V to TV lead is connected properly. or if you can borrow another lead to test and eliminate the lead problem.
also try the console and lead on another A/V socket on the same or different TV Set.
if non of the above works. it could be that your graphics chip has fried up.
hope this is a help for you.
