My fax machine will not send faxes. After a number is dialed, it will give me a report saying that there is no response/busy.

The only thing that could stop you from sending a fax or not get a dial tone, would be the connection to the phone line. Make sure the telephone wire is plugged into the line jack (not ext jack) and should go straight to the wall, without splitters or extensions. If you still cannot send a fax, try another wire or jack

I have a Brother mfc 290c. My problem is it won't send faxes, it keeps saying "no response, busy" I have a duet line. I have tried every combination in the book but still can't seem to find the solutions...

Hello,
If you get the "busy/no response" message it is because the fax machine does not get a response when it tries to dial out.
Make sure you have a dial tone by pressing the "hook" button. If you do not have a dial tone, make sure the phone line is connected to LINE on the machine.
If you have a dial tone, try dialing the fax number. If you hear a recording, there is a problem with the line.
One of these two possibilities is causing the problem.
Thanks,
Pat

Fax is always busy when sending, have the line into the phone line port and into the telephone jack, fax scans and dials and even redials but it never go through, prints out receipt that says busy/no...

Has it always done this, or did Fax once work? Sadly, Windows XP Fax has many shortcomings, not the least of which is that it won't work with many modems still in common use. Modem incompatibility is not apparent during installation or the initial setup. It only becomes apparent when you try to send or receive a fax. The Fax Service will dial or will answer an incoming fax but then fail with any of a number of unhelpful error messages such as "Line is busy," "There is no answer," or "Reception error." There will be nothing in Event Viewer to give a clue as to where the problem might lie.

These errors have been nearly impossible to track down. To do so requires enabling both PSS and debug logging of fax transmissions, both of which require fairly extensive registry changes. For the time being, the best advice is to attempt to use XP Fax only if you have a modem that is listed on the Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List and using the latest drivers.

Hope helps.

We had a power outage and are having trouble faxing to China....It rings, seems to connect then gives no error code and puts the fax out for re-dial...Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Plug a phone into this outlet and see if you get a dial tone. If you do not you will have to call the phone company. If you can use a phone at that outlet but not your fax, then you know that the power surge that came when the power turned back on damaged a fuse in your machine. Joe

Problem: Busy/No Response on all outgoing faxes

Put the document you want to send into the transmit tray, pick up the handset, listen for a dial tone, and then dial the # on the keypad..
It should ring just like any other phone. When the machine on the other end picks up and you hear the tones, press the start button.
Anything other than fax tones on the other end, it is not your faxes fault.

The number that you are sending to is either busy, disconnected, or off the hook. To chek BEFORE dialing press the "HOOK" button (located to the left of the "1" key) and listen to the transmission this will help you in your troubleshooting. If you don't hear a dial tone BEFORE dialing, then the trouble is on your end.
A fast-paced busy signal could indicate a "downed" telephne line.
Finally, sometimes the line that you are sending to has so much stuff hooked up to it (56K dialup fax, multiple phones, alarm system dialer, credit card validator, teenage daughter) that you may be better off e-mailing instead.

Can't send out fax

Make sure the phone cord is connected to fax machine in the place marked LINE, then make sure the phone cord is connected to the wall jack. Pick up your handset and make sure you have a clear dial tone also. If you are dialing long distance make sure you have the long distance service.

We can't send or received faxes

Just a suggestion. This effect can happen if you have plugged the line cord into the tel jack instead of line jack.

I can't fax! BUSY/NO RESPONSE

go into menu
go to fax settings
find send
click auto not manual, please make sure that when you push the hook key you hear a dial tone. always reminder that every fax machine has the capablitiy of either dial or tone. now if everything is set up properly  the problem will be in the tx portion of the board. if you can link up with somebody close to you and try to transmit back and fourth that will let you know if it is their problem or your. it may not be your problem.
