I cleaned the lint tray or catcher from the the front loader washing machine and the water still won't drain could the pump be out?

More details about where, when, how (and how much), etc., might be useful.
I'd check easy things like the drain hose, to make sure it's not clogged. But the most likely thing is that the filter cup has gotten clogged or the drain pump is dead.

To check out: Get a wet/dry shop vac. Hook it up to the drain hose to suck the water out of the machine and save a lot of mess.
Remove the bottom front panel. The drain pump on my Duet is front center bottom... easy to get to. There's a plastic handle to unscrew if I recall correctly, which brings out a sort of plastic cup filter. You might find enough change to buy yourself a cup of coffee. Clean it out. If it wasn't really clogged up, the problem is either something stuck in a hose, or a failing/failed pump. Check the hoses first; if it's not them, I'd order a new pump.

This issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. First make sure that the drain is not clogged and remove clogs if present. If no visible lint is present then remove the lower front access panel to check the drain filter and drain pump for any clogs, you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump completely, if the issue returns then it is time for a new pump. Check the 'coin-catcher'. It's a small compartment in front of the pump. It's supposed to catch all the big stuff (coins, nails, screws, etc) before it damages the pump. Sometimes lint and other items will snag in the coin-catcher and clog it up... Once it clogs, it will not allow enough water to go thru to drain the machine. I would not use the machine until I got it fixed (or looked at by a repairman)... the smell you're getting could be the pump not getting enough water thru and burning itself up....

Sorry but you do not say what make and model it is- front or top loader?

This possible cure applies to both!
Check the (drain motor) lint tray/filter if you have not done so already, especially as you say that it doesn't pump out the water. Either the filter is blocked OR the drain motor is malfunctioning. In either case that is enough to stop the machine.The filter is normally situated behind the front lower panel, certainly in most front loaders.
Before turning the filter holder anticlockwise to remove have a water receptacle and/or rags available to catch any water. It is a good habit to check the filter regularly!
It is also a good habit, especially in areas of 'hard' water to run the contents of a sachet of proprietary anticalc powder through regularly. It will help to keep the heating element clean AND the filter to a certain extent.

There is no lint trap. There is a coin catcher on the pump. The design of the wash action on a front loader is such there is less lint than on standard machines. One of the bennies of the design.

You don't give the model number, so I can not know for sure. That being said, on newer front load GE washers there is a filter access right on the lower side of the very front of the machine. On many slightly older GE front load washers you will have to take the lower portion of the front panel off to find a filter access. On them, it is usually a bit to the right side, about an inch and a half round removable plug with filter attached. Be advised that when you take it out the remaining water from inside the machine and it's pump and hoses will also come out, so be prepared.

you can try removing the lower acess panel(2 screws along the bottom of front) behind the panel youll see the pump assy mounted to the right, disconnect the hoses and check for debris in the hose assy. the machine will not spin if it cant get rid of water, and it cant get rid of water with a clogged hose. very commom.UNPLUG UNIT FIRST PUMP WIRES ALWAYS LIVE!!!!!!!

The filter on your pump is probably clogged with lint and other stuff. Lift washer up a bit. You have to remove the bottom front panel, 3 screws. The panel will drop and come off. Drain off excess water from the drain pipe you see. The white filter cover is right in front. Get yourself a bunch of towels or a good big plastic bag to collect water or a wet vac. Unscrew the filter cover and twist the filter out. Clean out all the stuff and put it back in.
