Here's an article in the Lexmark website that will guide you on how to replace the ink cartridges on your Lexmark X5150 printer. Just click on this link: http://bit.ly/bKZ15F. Follow the instructions carefully. By the way, in some cases, the ink cartridge carrier doesn't move in the loading position even when the printer is on when you lift the scanner unit open. If that happens, unplug the printer from the power source. With the scanner unit open, hold the solid white tape you see in the printer. Slowly slide the cartridge carrier to the center for easy access. Replace the cartridges. Close the cover, close the scanner unit. Plug the printer back to the power source. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, just place a comment so I can get back to it.

Please follow this link and well you would have your ink cartridges replaced without a problem.

Otherwise this is what you do

Step one: Remove the old cartridge
  1. Press the Power button ( c01983533.gif ) to turn on the HP product.
  2. Open the front access door. The carriage moves to the far right side of the HP product. CAUTION: If the HP product is off when the front access door is opened, the HP product will not release the cartridges. Figure 1: Open the front access doorc01429211.gif
  3. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a cartridge to release it.
    • To replace the tri-color cartridge, remove the cartridge from the slot on the left.
    • To replace the black cartridge, remove the cartridge from the slot on the right. Figure 2: Remove the black cartridgec01429212.gif
  4. Pull the cartridge toward you and out of its slot.
Step two: Prepare the new cartridge Use the following steps to prepare the new cartridge for use in the HP product. Which cartridges you use depends on your country or region. To check the cartridge compatibility for your product, right-click this link, HP SureSupply , and then click Open in New Window . If your language or country does not display next to the globe icon (c01906983.gif ) select your language and location.
  1. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging. Be careful to touch only the black plastic.
  2. Use the pink pull tab to remove the plastic tape gently. Figure 3: Remove the tapec01367670.jpg 1 - Copper-colored contacts 2 - Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing) 3 - Ink nozzles under tape CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. Figure 4: Do not touch the contacts or ink nozzlesc00442147.gif
Step three: Replace the old cartridge Use the following steps to replace the old cartridge.
  1. Hold the new cartridge with the HP logo on top, and then slide the cartridge at a slight upward angle into the empty cartridge slot. Push the cartridge in firmly until it snaps into place.

Step four: Place the unused cartridge in a cartridge protector If you are temporarily removing a working cartridge (for instance, removing a black cartridge in order to install a photo cartridge), put the cartridge that you are not using in a cartridge protector. NOTE: Cartridge protectors come only with photo cartridges. If a cartridge protector is unavailable, store the unused cartridge in a rigid, airtight container (not a plastic bag). If unprotected, the cartridge can dry out and become unsuitable for use. Step five: Align the new cartridge The HP product prints a cartridge alignment sheet when you install new cartridges.
  1. When prompted, load unused, plain white, U.S. letter or A4 sized paper into the input tray, and then press OK on the HP product control panel.
  2. Lift the scanner lid.
  3. Place the alignment sheet on the scanner glass so that the top of the sheet is on the right side with the text facing down. Make sure that the sheet is aligned with the right front corner of the scanner glass. Figure 6: Place the alignment sheet on the scanner glass
