Can I get hinge replacement parts for the left hinge? Where the top lid fits into the main machine the plastic hinge part is broken. I have removed the springs so the lid would close tightly

If all you want to do is to replace the lid, there are two TORX 15 screws on each side. Undo those and the lid should slide right off the pins. Be careful to not drop them into the tub or dispensers. You can then slide the new lid right on. Put the screws back on and test. If you lift the top cover off and mess with the springs, it is a PAIN to take off and put back on.

Disconnect the machine from power source then insert a plastic putty knife or similar tool in line with the lid seam and push in to release catches on the left and right side. The top cover can then be hinged up.


Once the top cover is raised, remove each of the 1/4" hex-head screw attaching each lid lock to the top cover.


Release the lid locks from the lid then reinstall them back into the top cover. Take the opportunity to visually check the lid locks and the harnesses for any obvious sign of degradation such corrosion and broken wires.

if it is a top loader,,,remove the screws in each end of the control panel,,,some units you have to remove the end caps to access the screws,,,then pull slightly forward on the panel and flip it back it is on hinges,,,,then remove the 2 clips that hold the back to the base,,,unplug the lid switch,,then open the lid and grab the inner lid section and pull the rear of the base towards you slightly and lift off the base,,,, then you can access the lid switch and replace it ,,,,

Hi, the left hinge is spring loaded to keep the lid open. This applies a lot of pressure on the pivot point of the hinge (steel pin/plastic hinge) that elongates the plastic holes and raises the lid from the scanner. As the paper leaves the scan window, a ramp next to the scan window sends the paper up to the tray, just past that ramp under the lid is a lip that guides the paper to the tray. With the hinge stretched, the lip is too high and catches the end of the paper at the rear only, and jams the paper. If you press on the cover (with the new hinge) and it does not catch then you have installed a bad hinge. Also ensure that the top part of the hinge is on the guide pins under the cover.

These are plastic and will need to be replaced with new.
Once you have sourced new hinges then the machine top needs to be opened,
Electrically Isolate the machine, then at the joint between the machine front panel and top insert a flat blade 4" from each side to release the lid catches, tilt back the top to access the screws on the hinges and replace with new.

ck lid switch earlier modes had switch on right of lid opening later it was moved to left rear hinge area ..those on right just replace those on left first ck hinge screws on left be sure they are secure listen for click when closing lid..no click raise lid push on hinge arm on left side toward rear of washer slightly try again still nothing remove console screws on rear of console lift and roll console back ck switch on left side may be broken if so replace

on rear of console remove the 2 screws 1 on each corner..console lifts and rolls backif switch on right under lid remove clips on each side cabinet then lifts from back to front and lifts off if switch ic under left side of lid at rear make sure hinge scres are tight on left hinge and lid hinge is striking switch solid if not push hinge at curved section toward back of washer

i went to Brother site and opened support.
searched for parts and got a listing of technical support shops in my area. called the first one listed and asked if they had the LP2403001 hinge in stock and they came back with an affirmative answer. will pick it up this afternoon locally.

Look at back of machine and at your new hinge, note the screw hole, if you undo both of those on the back of the printer, entire doc feed will come up and out, BECAREFULL just lift A LITTLE is enough to enable hinge base to be free of sockets (many cables attached) and place doc unit slightly sideways on copy glass to enable yourself access to 3 screws that hold hinge.

I had the same problem, found your site and all of your suggestions. I ordered the same left hinge assembly from Vance Baldwin Electronics
Part #LP2403001 for $11.03, shipping from FL to OK was $9.23 UPS, so less than $20 and my MFC-8440 is working again! I did have difficulty placing the screws without a second pair of hands so have someone help you hold the lid. Make sure you removed the set ***** from at least the back of the left hinge assembly so that you can remove the "case" that holds the springs and sticky white parts. (Yes, I am a girl) :-). My husband will be so suprised when he gets home and sees that it works now because it was on his honey do list this weekend. Also, make sure that you replace the set screws and clean the scanner appropriately before use. I really like this site, it saved me a lot of money this time. Take Care!
