"memory card error" on Canon PowerShot SD600 digital camera

QUESTION: will the x-ray machine for carry-on luggage at an airport damage an SD card? DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM: I recently went out of town and put both my CanonPowerShot SD600 digital camera and my Treo 680 smartphone through the x-ray machine for carry-on luggage at the airport. The camera worked fine for 3 days, but then I got a "memory card error" on the camera and no pictures could be taken after that. Thinking that the SD card in my Treo phone was still sound, I tried it in the camera and got the same error message. Now back at home, I tried putting both SD cards in my card reader but the computer does not recognize either card. It seems suspicious that the only thing in common with those two cards that could explain the problem is that I put both through the x-ray machine at the airport.

It has been 8 days since I first posted my message, and nothing came to me after early1234's initial response. I appreciate her willingness to "try to research" the problem, but without a followup message, I have no idea if she proceeded beyond her initial indication of a willingness to help. Please therefore cancel my request for help. I'm willing to try a different forum (or medium) for assistance.

Canon sd600 wont read 16gb memory card

No. The SD600 works with MMC and SD cards, which max out at 2GB. It will not work with SDHC cards such as your 16GB card.

Can sdhc memory card work in canon sd1300 IS camera?

A Canon SD 1300 IS camera can handle the following memory cards
SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, MMC Plus Card, HC MMC Plus Card

Short answer yes your camera can handle a SDHC memory card but personally I wouldn't go over 4gig

I have a cannon power shot SD600. I bought a memory card, and the camera says memory card error. I can't even fomat the card because the function won't high light.

Did you get an SDHC card? The SDHC protocol was developed after the SD600 came out, and the SD600 is not compatible with it. Use SD cards with a maximum of 2GB storage capacity.

Will my Canon SD600 suport a SDHL flash memory card?

I assume you mean SDHC.

The SD600 was designed to use SD cards. The SDHC specification is backward compatible, meaning that SD cards will work in SDHC devices, SDHC cards will not work in SD devices. This is a hardware incompatibility, not updatable in firmware.

Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

How to format an SD card on a Canon SD600 camera when the menu says "memory card locked." The memory card is in the unlocked position. When we put the SD card in another Canon camera (SD780 IS), it works...

Could be that you have the wrong memory card.
SD600 will only work with the old SD cards, but the SD780 will take the SDHC cards.
SDHC was intended to give 4gb or more of storage, while the old SD started as 16 mb.  Different cameras have different limits, but it is always best to assume that the practical limit on an SD card is 2mb.  Even if the SD780 will take the SDHC cards, it can be more practical to only carry 2GB SD cards and know that they will fit either camera

My canon sd600 is not reading PNY sdhc memory card. msg says card is locked. it's clearly not locked

HC or High Capacity is not compatible with this camera. You have to buy a memory card which says only "SD" and NOT "SDHC". Cards of 2Gb and less are usually "SD". Cards of 8Gb and more are always "SDHC" for technical reasons. Cards of 4Gb can be either, but the SDHC kind are much more common, because they're cheaper and newer.

vebhat,
Make sure the little slide on the SD card is in the right position, and if it's a high capacity SD it might not be compatible with your camera...

"Card Locked" error is false!

Remove card from SD600 camera. Locate sliding switch on side of SD card and move from lock to other (unlocked) position. That ought to do it. Compact flash card is another issue.
