Which input on the TV and which output on the DVD player are you using? HDMI is the best and easiest. Next is standard video plus audio (3 leads, yellow - video, red and white - audio). If you are using the component input, you can get B&W if you have the leads incorrectly connected. If you're going from component to video in, you might have the same result, I'm not certain. How is the DVD player connected to the TV? If you are using component video, check that the cables are connected correctly.

If you switch the order on two of the cables, the black and white result is common. So double-check that the red, blue and green connections (RPbPy) have been connected to both devices in the same order. Next try a different set of component video cables, in case one of the wires is damaged.

If possible, try a different type of connection to rule out a damaged input/output. Connect the TV to a different DVD player or the DVD player to another TV, if possible, to rule out similar damage.

use red/white/Yellow cables to connect to a loose hard diskon which I keep films, TV-serials and talking books. The colour is fine.

But I connect the DVD to the TV with a scart cable.

check your component video cables, make sure they connected to the same color on both the dvd player and the tv.

Are you using the Red Blue Green component cables? make sure they are in the correct spots.

1. Verify connections are color coded.

2. If they are correct, take out movie, press Play/Stop at same time on the front of the unit (not remote) to reset any settings that may have been changed.

Press N/P button on remote, if that dont work, go into the Setup Menu and do a DEFAULT. If either of those dont work, check to make sure your video cable is in the correct location.

If your in U.S., should always be on NTSC
If outside of U.S., you would select PAL

it has something to do with your TV's video system and your player's video system...they should match...that is,PAL-PAL,NTSC-NTSC and etc..or if your tv has a multisystem then just set it to AUTO..

I too had the same problem. On the Vzio there are AV plug ins on the left side (not the back, but the left side). Use these jacks when connecting to the DVD player and choose the AV button on the TV remote. Viola!
