Just added an Intex salt water Gernerator to my existing above ground pool. Water is green, can I add chlorine shock to speed up the process. And Ph is low. Can i add PH increaser or should I just wait and let the Intex do its Job?

Yes, you can add chlorine. Liquid chlorine will raise the ph a bit. Don't know what kind of shock you are adding, but wait a day, recheck ph level, than adjust.

Green water with salt water filtration system- HELP

you can not blindly just add salt
you need a salt test kit that reads #'s, not color
Get your salt content to as close to 3000ppm as you can any lower than 2800 and you will not produce enough chlorine and any more than 3500 and it will taste bad and could make your water cloudy or trigger high salt alarms
Also remeber to run filter only for 24 hours after adding salt

you also need to realize that a pool goes green for many reasons lack of sanitizer, heat, sun, rain, sun tan oil, 3 of swimmers
A pool need to be turned over at the bare minimum of 3-4 times in a day.
Intex filters are not sufficient to properly do the task
only a good sand filter and seperate pump of about 1 horse will really keep a pool sufficiently cleand but if you follow my advise you can do it with the intex
lets start with the filtering I believe your pool is around 5000 gl

if you have a 2000 gl ph pump then you need to be filtering 7 1/2 -10 hours just to keep your pool clear you do the math for you
as for grnerating your chlorine time varies depending on the situations I mentioned earlier
it is good you are using a stabilizer but that only goes so far if it was hot and sunny and a lot of use chlorine will get ate up any way
And make sure your algaecide is a non foaming kind and stick to the directions
now to your problem at hand
you now need to as you did shock it but you also need to use a lot of elbow grease and remeber this is going to be tedius

Clean your cartridge with the garden hose blast it in the folds as hard as you can
start your filter again and now add 2 gallons of chlorine or house hold bleach

let filter for 12 hours and then with a pool brush not the bristles under your vacuum head scrub the sides and walls continue filtering until you see the settled algae and then vacuum

now clean your cartridge again and repeat if the chlorine is still high you do not need to add but if it went low again then add 1 more gallon

continue doing this until you can see a huge difference
once you can then start with your algaecide again
at this point overdose it as directed on the bottle once your chlorine is low enough to get in then you need to get in and brush under the seems
with the intex liner there are too many seams and folds that need to be addressed

another hint is to have 2 filters one drying while the other is in the unit
a wet freshly cleaned filter does not work and trap particles as well as one that has been dried

Another good chemical to use is a water clarifier this helps minute particles that you can not see clump together thus making it easier for thr cartridge to trap

good luck and if you have any more questions you can e-mail me through this site

My water was crystal clear when delivered. I added the salt, ran the filter pump for 24 hrs as instructed. Turned on my Intex saltwater pump and within an hour water is green. Cannot find anything on...

I am not impressed at all with these salt water chlorinators.Shock the water and keep the filter running next day add a powdered chlorine.filter still running. check the balance with test strip in about four hours. If chlorine level is good start vacuming the algee off the bottom of the pool. Now throw away the salt generator and stay with the chlorine packs every week to two weeks continue to monitor with test strips

My pool looks like it has a green tint to the water when the slat water system is not running why? Also my ph is low how do I fix this?

Might need more salt. Ihad a salt system at one time and went back to just adding chlorine. To many problems with the salt system. Easier to add chemicals weekly

Salt water intex pool

Salt chlorine generators cause your pH to raise over time. You will need to add acid as needed to keep it within the ideal range. When adding acid, shoot for the low end (about 7.2) so you have room for the pH to creep up again before needing more acid.

As for green water, what is your chlorine reading, if any? Probably need to shock it not only again but an even bigger dose than the first. Shock treatments are not cumulative. If the first doesn't do the job, adding just a little more will not either.

I have an intex chlorinator and an intex 24' x 48" round pool. I added only 250 lbs of salt, but the table said 290 lbs. I never got a "low salt" reading. When the water level got low I added water and...

high chlorine can cause problems too it will give false readings for your ph and alkalinity.
The most important thing to remeber is that there is a sequence to follow.
First buy a test kit for salt about 11 bucks for 10 tests. you need to have the ppm's at 3000
if it is to high drain 20% water re-fill and filter/curculate for 6 hours then test again. once at 3000 then go for your chlorine it should be between 1.0 and 1.5 with a test kit now with those 2 in line go for ph adjustment ph should be as close 2 7.6 as possible. Ph will cause more problems like cloudy water or algea more than anything else.
another thing you need to realize is that the intex salt system sucks. Once you set it for the # of hours to chlorinate you are basically guessing as to what is needed. Yes there is a guidence chart as to hours to run but it is over kill and lets too much chlorine be generated start with 3-4 hours of generating but remember also that at 4 hours generating that is nowhere near enough filtering
you will need to shut power off get it out of sleep mode and continue to filter
on avberage a pool should be turned over 3 times a day my pool 7000gl and the 2000gph all in one intex salt pump needs run at least 10 hours a day alone without the chlorinator
my pool only 18' so with your total gallons it will be longer
one last thing to consider is that when in chlorine generating mode the filter slows down because of all the electronics. You can not hear it happen but if you put your hand in front of the discharge you can tell
