GE Profile Stainless Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator with Internal Dispenser 22.2 Cu. Ft. - PFS22SIS Logo
Anonymous Posted on Apr 18, 2010

Hi, we just purchased an 5 year old GE profile refrigerator with full door/bottom freezer from a private party. It was working fine at his house. The refrigerator has a loud buzzing every 1/2 for a few seconds and then stops; it is working fine keeping cold. It does have an ice maker that I think has never been used or may not be complete, it does not have a handle to move. Thanks so much

The buzz is most likely coming from the water valve that feeds the ice maker. If the ice maker is not being used the buzz will continue unless the power is disconnected to the valve. It does not hurt anything but can be annoying.

If the ice maker does not have the shut off handle (arm) to lift then a solution would be to unplug the ice maker itself. If you look at the ice maker in the freezer it is usually held on by 3 screws to the side wall. If you remove these screws there will be a wire plug that you can unplug and remove the entire ice maker and free up room. With it disconnected the buzz will stop.

Had similar problem, freezer was working fine, but fridge was warm, (68 degrees) It wasnt my damper, the mother board was fried, and so was the inverter board that told the compressor what to do, after having the inverter and two mother boards replaced.......I threw it out, biggest piece of ****, only three years old, and Sears would not stand behind it, even though I used their repairmen. I will never buy another GE product, or enter a Sears store again

Hi do you notice any frost in the back of the freezer? If you do not this is a bad motherboard, I would recommend calling GE directly if under 5 years old they will fix at an extremely discounted price if it over 5 then the board costs about $175.00-200.00 to buy.

OK, Have a look (if you can) and see if one of the water jets might be broken, or if there might be a defect in the tray. I can't help any further i'm afraid.

Model gss25wg. 5 years old. Worked fine when we got it home. Now

Try to remove rear wall of freezer to check frost pattern. An even but light patter of frost on full coil is normal. Coils full of frost with aluminum almost fully hidden generally means defrost problem. Heavier frost on the bottom coils and gradually tapering off as you go up until the top coils have no frost usually means a leak of freon or a bad compressor.
