My hotpoint FFP187B future freezer doesnt keep the food frozen. the fridge works fine i turnt the dial down when we went on holiday as it we left the freezer empty, i turnt it back up when we returned a week ago. its currently on no.4 and the food defrosts. ive removed the draws and the wall behind them, the element gets cold with alittle frost on the top part of it and also the heater works fine too. i believe the fan on the false wall in the freezer isnt coming on. the fan works as i powered it up with 230v but it doesnt seem to come on as its meant to, i guess this is what blows the cold air around the freezer. why would this fail to come on? many thanks for any advice given

Temperature sensor or thermostat are biult in module as it is frost free fridge/freezer so you would have to have someone to look at it as new module cost a lot.

I have a FF82 model and it is starting to freeze food. there is some frozen water in the bottom. The temp control dial doesnt move. What shoudl I do to fix this.

Temp dial shouldn't have a setting that would freeze your refrigerator side products anyway. Make sure damper to fridge isn't stuck or frozen which cuts off air from freezer to fridge when temp is achieved. If all working properly for sure. Sounds like bad temp control.

Hotpoint frost free fridge freezer the fridge not working but freezer is

Hi Reginald

Most refrigerator / freezer units chill the fridge area by venting some fraction of the very cold air from the freezer into the fridge compartment through a channel that has a mechanical air valve in it. In this way, it can control the chilled air flow, and aim for the set temperature, all the way down, in some cases, to freezing, or even colder, on the fridge side.

That vent unit, depending on your model, sill be somewhere in the wall that separates the freezer from the fridge. What can happen is that moisture condenses into the louver that slides to control the airflow, it freezes, and then system is stuck, since it's cold on the freezer side, and this keeps the louver frozen stuck. If that is the case, shutting the unit off for a while may recover function, though getting it to where ice is melting in an interior wall may be more risk of food spoilage than you'd want. Otherwise, use a search engine to look for 'how to test freezer / refrigerator vent in make/model', and you'll likely come across all sorts of youtube and step-by-step tutorials.

Good Luck!

Hotpoint fridge freezer freezer ok but fridge not working temp is always 21 degrees tried to set to 4 degrees but just keeps going to 21 freezer is fine -22 degrees

Merv -

Most manufacturer's fridges are designed for 34 degrees F in the fresh food compartment and 0 degrees F in the freezer compartment. Setting the fresh food compartment to a value lower than 32 degrees will freeze any moisture in foods, fruits and vegetables and freeze water in juices and other beverages resulting in broken containers, exploding cans, etc.

What you need is another freezer. Trying to convert a refrigerator into a freezer is going to be very difficult - especially without ruining it.

Good luck!

Freezer not working

Hi,
As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

FRIDGE NOT COLD FREEZER WORKS FINE

Make sure the freezer fan motor is running. Remove the rear panel in the freezer and check for frozen coils. If coils are frozen replace the defrost heater and thermostat.
Check the air vents to the fresh food section, are they frozen closed?

Freezer works great, as it should, but fridge is only keeping items room temp. I have the setting at the coldest setting: #7. What is wrong?

Here's what I did, I defrosted! I found out that the fridge temp is monitored and maintained by the freezer. Because we had a power outage one night, my freezer thawed while we all slept and then when power came back on, freezer re-froze but this cause an ice build up on the vent on the back wall of the freezer. Well, ice must have been in one (or more) vents, causing blocked air flow in my top half of the refrigerator. I turned the dial in the freezer to "off" which also shuts down power to the fridge half. I then unplugged the refrigerator, hauled all my food items into coolers, opened the freezer door and refrigerator doors and left them open for a little over six hours. I took advantage of this empty fridge and freezer and wiped everything down. After this time frame passed, I plugged the fridge back in, turned the freezer dial to my preferred freezer temp, and wah-lah! Within two hours I had a cold fridge and solid ice cubes in the freezer. I then put all my food items back into their appropriate compartments, and went to work. Bear in mind, a total 24-hour period is needed for the fridge to re-set itself, but still, after two hours the fridge was noticeably cold. Who knew, besides our parents' generation: DEFROST!
