Hi wyoed1,
I read with interest your solution for dawn2 regarding same problem I have. Before that, I called a tech out to look at it and he apparently did the same thing but now, it's too bright and even with contrast all the way up, picture looks kind of washed out. He adjusted the pots in the tv and adjusted (I assume) intensity settings using the remote. Bottom line: The picture now looks worse (it looked better before, even with the darker picture). How do I return the tv to its originally factory settings and undo what this ******** did, and more importantly, what do you think is causing the problem? I want the problem fixed and not masked through bad adjustments by an incompetent repairman. Any help would be appreciated.

Depending on where you got the TV, a reputable store would offer to exchange or replace it if they couldn't get it fixed to your satisfaction. Otherwise, check with your attorney general for the lemon laws in your state. If you get a choice of a replacement, check out the Toshiba 62HM196 in Decembers issue of Consumer Reports.

Hello billy218,
What is happening is that your convergence amplifier modules are beginning to go bad. These amplifiers are what amplify the signals used for convergence (how the RGB lights line up on each other) when they go bad the RGB lights tend to bow towards the center of the TV and the colors begin to mis-align. There are many sites devoted to doing the changing of the amplifiers yourself,however although these sites are accurate in give the instructions on how to change the amplifiers they do very little for actual troubleshooting and finding the underlying cause of the problem. In most cases its just that the amp modules have gone bad, but sometimes there is an overheating problem that triggers the damage. I would suggest having a TV repair person come to your place to check the problem and to fix it. The repair should cost about $250.00

Good Day, Techwanab;
Look for this to be your problem: CHECK FOR OPEN L2C50 PART #325C146030 ON THE SIGNAL PCB, OR BAD CONNECTIONS AND LEAKY CAPS IN THAT AREA.
Hope this was helpful and not too late.
Good Luck, big IRISH.

I FINALLY got the problem fixed!!! Gee I feel stupid. I called a great local TV repair guy and he came out and fixed it for next to nothing. The stupid part is that all he had to do was take apart the TV's front fascia and clean the mirrors and things inside....it was FILTHY!!! Then the TV was like new again. It looks so good I wanted to kiss him. He advised that you really should be cleaning that about once a year or so to prevent this problem. Also, I live in Nevada with HIGH dust so that doesn't help either.

Had the same problem. Service replaced the lamp engine. It did help.
