Hello :

Your GoGear may not respond to button presses from time to time. This is often caused by an error in the operating system and can be fixed by resetting the device. Resetting the GoGear is similar to rebooting your computer. You will not lose any of the data uploaded to the device. To reset the GoGear, press the "Reset" button located on the left of the device. The screen will go blank for a few seconds and then turn back on.

If the GoGear freezes after uploading a file to the device or if one song or sound file freezes the device each time you play it, the file is likely corrupt and needs to be removed from the GoGear. Connect the GoGear to a computer and delete the file from the device.

SOURCE: my phillips 1630 6gb is frozen on the gogear screen

Press volume + with the player disconnected from computer.
Continue holding volume + as you reconnect player to computer.
Continue holding volume + after you connect player to computer.
Windows will recognize it for what it is after 5 to 55 seconds and will say "Found Hardware Wizard" - go through re-installation.

Get the latest firmware upgrade after you are done by Opening Philips Device Manager - Click on Update Tab - this will prevent problem from recurring in future.

Note: if you have Windows Media Player 11, ignore everything I said. You must rollback to Windows Media Player 10, or this player will give you constant heartache.

My philips gogear vibe wont turn on

Reset your GoGear with something sharp like the tip of a pen or the end of a paper clip,

if you're device isn't working properly or there's a frozen display.

Insert the sharp object into the "Reset" hole (located at the bottom of the player), and hold it there until the device turns off.

If resetting the device does nothing to restore the display, access the "Philips Device Manager" through your computer to recover the GoGear.

Click "Start" on your computer, then "Programs," "Philips Digital Audio Player," "Aria Device Manager," and then "Philips Device Manager."

This will launch the "Philips Device Manager." Make sure the GoGear is turned off completely. Connect your GoGear to your computer while holding down the "Volume Up" button.

Continue to hold the "Volume Up" button on your GoGear, until the "Philips Device Manager" recognizes the device and enters recovery mode.

Click the "Repair" button when it appears on your computer, then folow the steps to fully recover the GoGear.

Properly disconnect your GoGear from your computer and restart the device.

Recharge your device if your GoGear dies suddenly while playing.

Connect the GoGear to your computer via the supplied USB cord.

Plug one end of the USB cord into a functional, open USB port on your computer. Plug the free, smaller end of the USB cord firmly into the small USB jack on your GoGear and turn your computer on.

This will begin the charging process of your GoGear.

If recharging doesn't work, the battery may need to be replaced.

Check that your GoGear isn't in standby mode. Hold the "Power" button for two seconds to turn it back on.

hope this helps

My philips go gear mp3 player 8gb SA52XX is frozen (stuck at the part where it says go gear) nd due to that my pc ownt recognize it and nd obviously i cant listen ot music, iv tried everythiing frm...

Hi Ayesha. Resetting the device should be able to fix minor problem with the unit. Since resetting the device had no effect, the problem you might encountering there is more of firmware problem. Try to reinstall/upgrade the firmware of your device. Philips has software that is called SONGBIRD. I think you have that one in the cd when you purchased the program You may download the progra,m by clicking here. Below is the procedure on how to perform the uprgade:

Download and install the Phillips Songbird program. Launch the Phillips Songbird software.
Connect the Phillips GoGear MP3 player to your computer using the supplied USB cable. Click the icon of your GoGear MP3 player on the left side of the Songbird interface.

Click the "Tools" tab. Click the "Check for updated firmware" button. If a new update is available for your device, it will be downloaded and applied. Do not disconnect the GoGear MP3 player until the Songbird program tells you that the installation is complete.

Hope this helps..

Player frozen..

You need to do two things - the first tactic will force the computer to recognize the GoGear - the second will fix the device:

Disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

After this is done, open the Philips Device Manager that came with the install CD, and run a "Repair" - the instructions will be remarkably similar to what we did before.

The do a "update" in the Philips Device Manager to be on the safe side.

Device manager wont detect my gogear HDD1630/17 even though i recently updated the software and driver, also my device is frozen on "Please connect player to pc". I can't even get it back to the menu...

I was experiencing this similar problem, and from my research so were alot of other people, what finally worked for me was this:

  • Update all the software on your computer via Phillips site
  • Open the Philips Device Manager
  • With the device connected and the 'connected to pc' screen showing on the GoGear, do a 'soft reset' by holding the Power Off + Volume Up buttons for a few seconds
  • As soon as the device restarts itself, hold the Volume Down button, the computer should now recognize the GoGear
  • Follow the onscreen directions to Repair the device
  • Thank the intarwebs.

FROZEN!!

First, try resetting the GoGear. Make sure the GoGear is on, if possible. Use a small paperclip or other device and press it into the reset hole. If the reset doesn't work, then:
Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new.
