I have the same problem, although my 'magenta' tank light is off and this is the tank the printer seems to think needs replacing- but the tank is brand new!

    Hello,

I have the same problem but with mine it is the Cyan tank. Did you try the suggestion to replace the ink tank? Did it work?

  • Anonymous Mar 31, 2008

Me too. Mine is the Black tank. I tried to replace it with a brand new cartridge and it only work for a few times before it started flashing the orange light again. So frustrating.

First had a problem "duplicate 5 black tanks", renewed the cli8bk tank

(looked empty) A new problem "Ink tank errors has ocurred" ie 15 flashes on the Paper feed button., Renewed the PGI 5BK, still 15 flashes.

The replacement 5BK tank has the pink flashing light ( could this be faulty??

Tried also washing out the tank as I dont use this printer very often, but has made no difference

same here but with 7 flashes, i tried all, cleaning, replacing the small black tank, but the problem remains,

I get the message "Ink Info Number : 1683 The remaining level of the following ink cannot be correctly detected. Magenta [8]" Replace the ink tank." I had replaced the black and the cyan, and they worked just fine, but then I replaced the magenta and got that annoying message. Of course, I can't print anything. I tried a different magenta tank. I tried cleaning the cartridge and the "head" inside the computer. I also reinstalled the driver.
Same message, same problem. I tried to find some help in the on screen manual that came with the software, but it appears to be blank.....

Printer worked fine two days ago, now 15 flashes, I removed and replaced ink carts which didnt have the lights on as requested, It was all 5 tanks, but still the same - repeated action about 7 times.

I called cannon who told me to get new tanks. I told them I wouldnt , as I didnt believe all 5 tanks would go the same day. Now theyve told me to replace the print head, and take to a service 300 km away.

I,ll not be buying another cannon. It's only used around two tanks of each colour!

I also have the same problem. I rang the support number and was told my options were to either replace the cartridges or take it for servicing. I said I would do neither of these as the cartridges were full. We did come to an agreement in the end though which was that I would return the printer for a refund and never again buy another canon product. He seemed happy with this solution.

I dont know why others have posted non- solutions in the solutions section!!

But HERE is a small development.

I have tried a new canon cartridge in the printer, and now when I get the 15 flashes I open the IP4200 printer as per onscreen instructions to replace the cartridge that isnt lit up, and now the new cartridge is lit, showing that the printer is happy with that one. The other four arent lit up, so now I presume I have to buy the other four canon cartridges.

Odd how all 5 cartridges went at the same time and are all at least half full. These cartridges have each been refilled 2 times. It seems canon have found a way to stop people refilling their cartridges even though It was deemed illegal when challenged in court.

I have a canon printer, scanner, camera and DV video camera - I wont be buying cannon again.

I have the same problem with the cyan tank and find that licking the chip on the corner of the tank works for a while. I have tried replacing the cartridge to no avail.

Tank absorber full and lights blinking

The POWER Lamp Flashes Orange Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative.

Note
Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the waste ink tank becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible.
