Pioneer PDP-4280HD 42 in. Plasma Television Logo
Anonymous Posted on Apr 17, 2010

My Pioneer PDP-4280HD Plasma - Have never been able to get the TV Guide feature to work. Only some of the set up screens are shown in the manual. Can someone help? I see the feed of channels, which is correct, but it always shows as searching. the inputs are correct... as it sees the channels. on the listing page, it shows things like what channel to set it on like 2 or 3 or 4. I've tried those and it never gets the listings.

It's been over 36 hours. Actually, we have had this set for 3 years. I go back now and then and try to get it to work. It always says searching.

I called Comcast again today, and it says it has the service. And if it is getting any info.. which it is getting the channel names and numbers,........ it should get all of it. Fault of set, according to them.

I reset it back to defaults and reentered it all 2 days ago. Nothing.

I have done ALL of this... and more than one time over the last few months. As I said, I get the channels listed... names of stations with call letters/number. Nothing else. it always shows the set up checked as done and then SEARCHING. It shows that for 2 or 3 WEEKS. I've done all you said. Over and over. Followed all directions BEFORE I asked for help.

TV Guide On Screen Setup Progress:
    SEARCH FOR TIME In Progress
SEARCH FOR TV STATIONS WITH TV GUIDE DATA In Progress
    SEARCH FOR CHANNEL LINEUP Done
    NEXT LISTINGS TRANSMISSION Begins 4/17, 2:31 a.m.

All day it said next transmission would be 4/16/, 2:31 a.m.

This screen never changes... except for the date.

I've said it all. Don't know what else. I read the directions... followed them. no listings.

  • Anonymous Apr 21, 2010

Everyone gives me the same directions that are on screen. They don't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous Apr 22, 2010

    I can read.

    I have done it all.

what good is this if everyone just tells me to read the book. doesn't work.

Press the TV Guide button on the remote. Press Enter and a series of windows will  appear:
1 - press OK to begin the setup process.
2 - select country  - using up/down keys, press Enter, select Next using right key and press Enter (this selection procedure will  work for all the rest).
3 - for US you will need to select a ZIP code.
4 - select the source of the signal - cable or antenna (for all the rest)
5 - select the jack in which the source of the signal is plugged in
6 - select Yes and it's done.
Beware, it may take some time before the guide appears, it depend on how often it is broadcasted, on some channels it's only once in a day.

The only reason for not receiving the data is that the tv is probably set on a wrong signal standard.

    Check that.

An "Updates" user Guide.
Please go to Page 33, FIRST to pre-set-it-up, then Chapter 10, to set-it-up, it is ALL in the above manual, there you will find step by step "How to". As I see it, it is quite straight forwards, please follow, the step by step procedure, very long winded.. however work through it. and WAIT.
NOTE BELOW Once you set up the TV Guide On Screen™ system it may take up to 24 hours to begin to receive TV program listings. Receipt of all eight days of listings may take up to one week (see Screen 7)

REMEMBER Before you can start using the TV Guide On Screen™ system, you’ll need to set it up. If you haven’t already done this, please turn to TV Guide On Screen™ System Setup on page 33 before proceeding, to chapter 10.

My research into your set and its TV Guide feature brought up two points that may be relevant:

  1. It apparently takes about 24 hours for the guide to load up completely. This would make it difficult to get real-time info as to whether it was working or not.
  2. 'TV Guide' may not work will all providers, and may not work as providers switch to digital. Have you spoken to your provider about possible compatibility?

I hope that helps

Ooops, a closer look at the manual (p33) says that it may take 24-hours to BEGIN to receive TV program listings. Receipt of all eight days of listings may take up to one week.

So I've got to suggest speaking to a customer service or tech support rep at your service provider to confirm that their tv service supports your TV's Guide Data. 1-7 days is a long time to wait for feedback to see if a setup has been successful.

PLASMA DISPLAY STARTING UP. PLEASE WAIT

Un plug the power to the Plasma Screen and also to the Media Receiver for ten minutes. Disconnect the off the air antennas both A and B. After ten minutes plug in the plasma screen then the media receiver and turn on wi the remote control. You should now be back in operation. I was.
Also It may not be a bad digital tuner. The TV Guide feature is active even when the zip code is set to all 0s so if you have an over the air antenna attached the TV will look for the TV Guide info and if it can not find it because of a weak signal or the chanel it is tuned to does not carry that information the TV thinks that tuner does not work which triggers the 12 flashes. Also on power up the gray box with the waring message "Plasma Display Starting Up, Please Wait" appears and the screen is blank.
