Acer Aspire 5050 Won't Boot.

I turn on the computer and windows vista loads but wont go to the login screen. It just sits at a black screen with only the mouse pointer visible. I don't have a vista cd just an upgrade cd that acer gave me to upgrade from xp to vista.

Your problem could be windows vista isnot installed properly
i assume in the beginning, your laptop come with windows xp.
if you want to go back to windows xp, you can still use alt+f10, as long as you don't delete the recover partition.
Just boot and press Alt+F10, it'll give you recover screen.

Sounds like the HAL.DLL problem that I have with my Aspire One.
Try booting off a genuine Windows XP disc and choosing the 'recovery console' option. At the command line, type 'CHKDSK C:' and press Enter. If you're lucky, that will do the trick.

there may be some problems with the windows restore files
try out this one
switch on the laptop while booting ie when you see the compaq logo on screen press 'F8' key , now you will get a DOS screen and select the "last known Good Configuration mode" Now it should work

My computer will not boot up Acer 5050 all the lights com on but it never boots the screen stays black. it will not turn off unless you remove the battery.

If you have a VGA cable and a monitor, attempt to plug this into a monitor to verify that the laptop will not boot into your OS (Windows generally). If it does end up booting into your OS, then it sounds like your LCD has died or become unplugged inside the laptop.

Can not get computer to boot up

If you have Vista, insert the cd and boot the laptop. Make sure to hit any key when advised to by the screen. You will see....."boot from cd, hit any key" Once the cd runs it will load windows, when that is done it will offer several options. Choose start up repair first and let the computer run. Windows will attempt to repair the boot up for your windows installation.

Can someone tell me how to reboot my Acer Aspire 5050?

"Can someone tell me how to reboot my Acer Aspire..."
"I use Windows Vista".

Right! Thankyou for providing more information than most users do here, but in this case, Windows Vista will look and run the same on any computer. =-D

Click on the start-menu button (it's the Windows logo at the bottom-left of your screen)

Then aim for an icon that is red, with a white circle and a line in it. Click that, and then you'll be prompted for restart, shutdown, take over the world etc.

Done! =-]

Acer Aspire 5050 Won't Boot.

your only problem is VISTA, go back to xp vista has no benefits at all for normal uses... at least for now. Besides that problem could be caused by too many things and the information you provided is very incomplete...

MY VISTA WINDOWS WONT LOAD

Okay, I think I can help you but I need some more information. I'm assuming your Acer laptop currently has a version of Windows XP installed, yes? And Acer gave you a CD to upgrade your OS to a version of Windows Vista?

And when you mean that you go to your BIOS to access the CD, I'm assuming that you are talking about the boot options menu (selecting the cd drive vs the hard drive or floppy drive or what not) correct?

When you select the CD drive to boot from, what exactly happens? Do you get any error message? Does the computer turn off? Does it appear to try to load from the CD and then switch to your hard drive instead (and load your existing operating system)?

Acer 5050 crash problem.

It is highly unlikely its a crash......two operating systems cannot....CANNOT crash similtaneously. Its impossible! unless the hard drive you run both on is faulty BUT you wouldnt get Windows to load. Not even for a bit....you say all lights will stay if they were lit up but they some how dont stay on.........I think thats what you mean.........then you say you checked again and there were rectangles that look like a book that stopped blinking yet the power lite stayed on....Im at a lost But I dont think its a crash......only software crash it might be a hardware pronlem....
