My presario want boot

The only way I can get it to boot is to do a system recovery which lost all my stuff and every time it turns off I have to run the rcovery again. I tried to run a virus scan but it wants to turn it self off and then I have to run rcovery again.

Compaq Presario doesn't come with installation disks. We've done the system restore but it requires a restart and we are back to square one. How do we re-install Windows?

If you still have an installation disk, put it in, restart, and run a startup repair. if that doesn't work, try to do a system restore. if that doesn't do anything you'll have to completely re-install windows.

  • Anonymous Apr 17, 2010

It should still be fixable with a disk.

If you still have warranty on it, you can ask the manufacturer for a solution.

If not, and you're okay with doing something technically illegal. but still morally okay, you can download an installation disk.

I would recommend bittorrent. First, go tohttp://www.utorrent.com download and install, then go tohttp://isohunt.com and do a search for your current version of windows. Burn it to a CD then boot off of that, and re-installing should be pretty straightforward from there.

Sounds like a bad hard drive. Suggest downloading Spinrite 6 from www.grc.com and creating a boot CD. Boot with the CD and run to diagnose the hard drive.

Need a boot driver

If your computer came with recovery media, you'll want to insert and boot from the operating system install disk (if it doesn't boot from your media automatically, you may have to change the boot order in BIOS [hit f10 at boot time]. Depending on the version of windows you are running, the boot options will be slightly different but you want to end up in repair mode. in XP that will mean hitting "R" to repair, vista/7 you will hit "repair my computer". Once you can get into a recovery console, you'll want to type: sfc /scannow
That will find and replace corrupt system files and boot drivers.

My boot up is really slow on my Compaq Presario CQ56. How can I get it back to original speed?

You have an issue with your hard disk drive. Back up your data at once. Create the recovery disks from recovery manager in program files list. Replace the drive and run the factory restore. Install an antivirus and transfer your data back.

How can I put my Compaq Presario F756NR back to the factory configuration?

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select the first date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot your problem should be resolved.

If you feel that my answers have helped you getting solution to your problems then please give a vote.

How do i remaster my compaq presario please. i want to reset it back to factory settings

There are 3 possiblities:

1) Use the recovery disks either supplied with the computer or that you (should have) created when you got the computer.

2) Go into Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools and see if there is a Recovery program. If so, run it.

3) When the computer begins to boot, Press F8 several times and it will go to the Boot Menu. Look for a Recovery option. Some computers also have a line like, "For Recovery Press F10" when it begins to boot. It could be another F button.

Those are the choices. Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

How to use a recovery disc for presario cq 60 206us

Set your 1st boot to CD/DVD from your Bios Setting or use the hp Boot utility when you restart your computer.

Insert your Recovery disc into the CD/DVD Rom and reboot your computer. Just follow the installation wizard to install your system back to default/original settings. All of your data will be lost.

**Note
When you use the Recovery disc all the setings will be reverted back to the original settings. Back up or save your data before you use the Recovery disc.

Hope it helps.

When i tried to start windows i get this error message every time ''windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt'' , i have a compaq presario vs210us... Can any tell me...

What OS are you running? For XP and Win2000, get the OS install or upgrade disc for your version of Windows. Boot from the CD. (F12 just after the POST will let you choose the boot location. Try again if you miss the timing.)

Enter the recovery console and try to restore the old registry. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 for the XP commands involved.

Windows 7 install discs also have some recovery options when you boot from the CD/DVD as a LiveCD. But it is called the System Recovery (you can build your own System Repair disc with a working version) See the following for more information:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html and then System Restore:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html
Vista has something similar but didn't have an option for building a System Repair disc to my knowledge.

You might lose some registry information (depending on how often you had the system backup the critical information). These methods basically roll back to a previous version.

Good luck.

Cannot complete recovery or clean install windows Compaq Presario

You could have a Boot Sector Virus. you would need to run anti-virus software to try and remove this issue. I would recommend Avast or AVG. I have attached a link of website that microsoft recommends. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/49500/EN-US/

The monitor reads: system boot failure. Insert recovery disk.

McAffee Security or adding memory cards should not effect the ability to do a system recovery, but so be it. Here is a list of presario laptops, do you know which is yours?

Compaq presario v5000

Boot into Setup and run the TOOLS / PRIMARY HDD TEST / SHORT TEST.

If it fails, try another HDD.

If OK, verify Boot Order is Floppy, CD-ROM, HDD. Exit Setup.

Print Table 1 Low Level Format instructions from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/106419

Boot with a DOS disk that contains Debug. Run the Table 1 script. Turn V5000 Off.

Boot with the HP Operating System CD. XP install should now proceed normally.

Good luck.
