Good Afternoon Dennis - Often when this occurs, it is
because there are too many appliances on the circuit or something may have a
weak or poor breaker. Try plugging the unit in a different location or on its
own circuit. If the issue continues, then it could also be possible that
something shorted within the unit. So in this case, because it is a smaller
appliance, repairs are often more costly than the actual unit replacement. You
may want to check and see if your dehumidifier is still under warranty and if
so, reach out to the manufacturer to determine the exact warranty coverage.
Thanks for allowing me to help you.
the motor is tight, (can't turn) lubricate the motor bearings with light machine oil. retest. rust causes this. the motor "tries" to turn, more power is needed, still can't turn, power exceeds safe limits: breaker trips.
this isn't what you want to hear but it sounds like you have a bad compressor . if the unit is less then 1 year old then find a local warranty service and they will fix it for free. If it is older then 1 year old it will cost more to fix then the unit is worth.
Not very likely check your paperwork what warranty did you get when you purchased this unit? you might have completed some papers and returned them to an address for the warranty to be accepted. It sounds to me like the unit is going straight to earth when switched on, this looks like a compressor fault, but would have to be checked to be sure.
As the unit gets older the motor will cause more load on the circut, also after years of use the breaker will trip easier. Replace the breaker and you may get more use out of the unit but most likely you will have to replace the unit.
compressor problem. Talked with coworker who had the same problem. He brought his in for repair and was told the compressor needed to be replaced. The cost of compressor close to the cost of a new unit so time for a new one.
make sure that the circuit breaker for the electrical plug is not faulty, cause after a long lifetime of high amperage flowing through it, the springs will start to get weak. If this is the case then you need to replace the electrial breaker. Otherwise, make sure that the power system on the system is not pulling too much current, Or that there is not a faulty breaker inside the printer itself, which has become weak.
I would try to find an outlet on another circuit to see if maybe the problem is definately your dehumidifier, if it trips again then you know it is...If not then call an electrician..
I have a Whirlpool Model AD$)DSR1 Dehumidifier, with similar issues. When plugged in where it was operating for three years with no problems, it would trip the gfci within 10 minutes. I have it out in the garage right now with all the covers off, and I've had it running on a heavy duty outlet for about a half hour now. The compressor is too hot to touch (ouch!), and the condenser coils are only cool, when they should be quite cold. I am ready to judge that one of two things has happened: Either the compressor is bad, or the refrigerant has leaked out of the system.
