Cd and dvd drives usually can slide right in and just held by the screws that it comes with. you might check the front panel is getting in the way.

Typically dvd and cd drives have a very small hole in the front of them.Unplug and discharge your pc then insert a paper clip or something small enough to fit into the hole. This is a manual drive opening over ride.

How do I remove the CD/DVD drive from this computer? The layout inside is different from many desktops.

just pop off the colored plate and the clips are on the side. the drive will slide right out.
(1) take off the left side cover, (2) near the front, at the bottom of the internal drive cage is a plastic lever, flip it down, (3) now open the front plastic CD holder cover (the bottom gray plastic thing), (4) there are two finger holes at the bottom of the top plastic cover - pull the top cover loose (note if you're scared to put a lot of pressure on it, you can use a small flat screwdriver through those holes to lift back the two tabs holding the cover on), (5) with the top cover off, pinch in the two plastic tabs on the side of the drive you want and pull it forward (note disconnect the IDE cable (and audio if there is one) before pulling the drive too far out), (6) pull off the two side rails from the old drive (they just push in and pull out) - but note which rail comes off which side (I'm not sure if they can be inserted upside down or not, so just keep track of which one goes on which side), (7) push the side rails onto the new drive (note you have to really push hard on the metal part of the rail to seat it properly - you'll know it's not seated if the drive doesn't slip in easily), (8) slip in the new drive & connect the IDE and power (and audio if there is one)cables (9) install the top plastic frame, flip up the lock inside the case, then close the bottom CD cover thing, (10) enjoy the new drive. hope this helps you and please vote for me

Product is Roxio Easy CD & DVD Burning. We put the cd in the drive, we get lights on the drive, we get hard drive disk activity but no installation program comes up. We tried turning off Norton AV,...

Most probably the CD does not have the autoun function or the autorun is no functioning. If you need to install the software, open the Windows Explorer and click on the drive for the CD and on the Explorer right side plane double click the "setup" installer and the installation should run.

Hope it helps.

I have a Dell Latitude D530 laptop - does it have a DVD writer?

According to your Service Tag, your machine was shipped with an 8X DVD -ROM & 24X CD/RW Combo Drive, so yes you will need to purchase a DVDRW drive. There is a single layer burner that 4.7GB, and a dual layer model for 8.5GB. They can be purchased from Dell directly, or eBay, Amazon etc (same drive fits D630, D830 etc) and there is a rectangular button on the lower right hand side of the drive that you press in, to pull out the existing CDRW, and simply slide the new drive in. You will need a Burning software like Roxio or Nero to burn DVD's onto the new drive.

How to install a second dvd player in my compaq

The computer needs to be opened up to properly install the CD or DVD drive into the computer. The method for opening the case will vary depending upon the case. Most new systems will use a panel or door on the side of the system while older systems may require the whole cover be removed. Remove and set aside and screws fastening the cover or panel to the computer case and then remove the cover.
Computer cases can generally hold a number of external drives but only a few are generally used. Any unsed drive slot has a cover that prevents dust from entering the computer and makes the case look better. To install the drive, it will be necessary to remove a 5.25" drive slot cover from the case. Removal of these generally is done by pushing some tabs either on the inside or outside of the case. Some may be screwed into the case.
The majority of all CD and DVD drives for computer systems use the IDE interface. This interface can have two devices on a single cable. Each device on the cable must be placed into the appropriate mode for the cable. One drive is listed as the master and the other secondary drive is listed as a slave. This setting is generally handled by one or more jumpers on the back of the drive. Consult the documentation or diagrams on the drive for the location and settings for the drive. If the CD/DVD drive is going to be installed on an existing cable, the drive needs to be set into the Slave mode. If the drive is going to reside on its own IDE cable alone, the drive should be set to the Master mode.
At this point, the CD/DVD drive needs to be placed into the computer. The method for installing the drive will vary depending on the case. The two most common methods for installing a drive into a case is either through drive rails or directly into the drive cage. Rails: Place the drive rails onto the side of the drive and fasten it with screws. Once the drive rails have been placed on both sides of the drive, slide the drive and rails into the appropriate slot in the case. Make sure to affix the drive rails so that the drive is flush with the case when it is fully inserted into the case. Drive Cage: Slide the drive into the slot in the case so that the drive bezel is flush with the computer case. When this is done, fasten the drive to the computer case by placing screws into the appropriate slots or holes in the case.
Many people use the CD/DVD drive inside of their computer to listen to audio CDs. In order for this to work, the audio signal from the CD needs to be routed from the drive to the computer audio solution. This is typically handled by a small two wire cable with a standard connector. Plug this cable into the back of the CD/DVD drive. The other end of the cable will plug either into a PC audio card or motherboard depending upon which the computer uses for audio. Plug the cable into the connector labeled as CD Audio.
At this point, the CD/DVD drive needs to be attached to the computer through an IDE cable. For most users, the drive will reside as a secondary drive to the hard drive. If this is the case, locate the free connector on the IDE ribbon cable between the computer and the hard drive and plug it into the drive. If the drive is going to be on its own cable, plug the IDE cable into the motherboard and one of the other connectors of the cable into the CD/DVD drive.
The only internal item left to do for installing the drive is to plug it into the power supply. This is done by locating one of the 4-pin Molex connectors from the power supply and inserting it into the power connector on the CD/DVD drive.
At this point the drive is fully installed into the computer case so it can be closed up. Replace the panel or cover to the computer case. Be sure to fasten the cover or panel back to the case using the screws that were set aside when the cover was removed.
All of the installation steps for the CD or DVD drive are now completed. The only thing left to do is return power to the computer. Plug the AC cord back into the power supply and be sure to flip the switch to the on position.
Regards..

Cant install program from DVD drive GWA-4164b

First check that your system meets the minimum requirements...ie. you have at least 512mb of ram, CPU of at least 2Ghz Pentium4 or equivalent(with off-board video), and your hard drive has >4GB of free space.....can view full list at:
http://www.amazon.com/Spore-Mac/dp/B000FKBCX4
Is SPORE on a duel layer dvd? If your drive is on the older side, you might try a newer one or you can try the following:
--take out an empty flash drive with
--go to a computer that will read the disk...if you have another computer or u can use someone elses
--put the disk in their computer and if the computer is able to read the disk, then put your flash drive in the computer and copy the disk onto your flash drive...
-y-ou can now try to install the program from your flash drive instead of using the disk...
NOTE: Trying this method wont cause any damage, but if the disk is encripted or if the install software is set to check for the disk during installation, then this may not work, but is worth trying since because a) even if it doesn't work, no harm is done, and b) you wont need to replace your disk drive if it does work.
