My wii will read and play gamecube discs just fine, but won't work with wii games. Some wii games can be played for an hour or so, before becoming unreadable.
Your disc drive will need to be replaced soon, or you can mod your wii system at www.wiihdmods.com and get 100 wii games playable from a hard drive for 150.00

Same thing with my gamecube console so I was getting ready to play my gamecube games and it said the disc cannot be read so I decided to check my disc;s and they look fine no scratches or dirt on them. So I tried it on a wii instead and that message didnt occur so the laser inside of the gamecube console leaser is weak or it needs to be adjusted. 10 Stars if this solution is helping you out.
Gamecube games don't have the proper coding installed on the discs in order to receive commands from the Wiimote. You'll have to have a Gamecube controller to play Gamecube games even on the Wii console.
Well I think that there is a hardware issue going on here then. So you should buy a wii instead
because wiis can play gamecube disc's too because i play my gamecube games on a wii and its better too.
You have a dirty laser or bad laser or bad disc. Suggest seeing if it played on a gamecube or someone elses wii. Will your system play all your other games? If so its the game disc. If your wii has troubles with other games its your wii console.
I have the same problem. The Wii has a better lazer eye on it that can read through more scratches and gunk and smudges and stuff than a gamecube. The gamecubes lazer is alot weaker and more touchy and more likely not to play a scratched disc than a Wii would..
