The manual says the flash range is 1' to 1.6 feet with setting the ISO speed to auto.

Do you have a button with a picture of a flower on it? Press that to remove macro mode...then your flash may work.

SOURCE: When i try to turn my flash on it says Macro Mode
You're in macro mode and the flash won't function. Check your manual to find out how to get out of macro mode. Most cameras have a button or a dial with a picture of a flower representing macro mode. Find that and change it.
SOURCE: The flash is in macro
The macro mode is for taking pictures of subjects very close to the camera. The camera disables the flash in this mode. There's a switch on the left side of the camera, near the USB port. Slide this switch away from the flower symbol and toward the mountain symbol to switch out of the macro mode.

There's a slide switch on the left end of the camera, near the USB jack. Slide it away from the flower symbol toward the mountain symbol.
