IPod Nano not recognized in Windows Vista or iTunes...

I have windows Vista and purchased an iPod (3rd generation) Nano... Windows does detect the iPod when I connect it, however, Windows tried to install a driver but can't find one. I didn't get any software with the Nano, but assumed installing iTunes was all I needed to do to use the iPod (this is my second iPod). The first one works fine, but this one will not. I have already tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it. That didn't fix the problem and actually made it worse since my first Nano (2nd generation) will no longer be seen by iTunes or Windows.

I'm not sure if this is a Vista problem or an iTunes problem... but from my searches on the internet, it appears this is a BIG problem for many people. Do you know of a fix? Should I just plan to format my HD and reload Windows? Don't want to do that but if there is no other choice what can you do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Apple iNOTs ****. Windows Vista won't find my ipod neither. I'm not surprised Microsoft Vista won't allow the ipod to work considering the fact that Mac has been hatin in all them MAC vs PC commercials.

Could be a hardware problem. Sometimes ipods will not connect to a computer even when everything else is working fine.

I have a 5th generation iPod Nano. I've had it less than one year, and now whenever I plug it into my computer with the USB cord that came with it, my computer says "USB device not recognized" and that the...

  • Check system requirements. - iPod nano (5th generation) requires the following minimum versions of Windows: either Windows XP (Service Pack 3 or later), Vista or Windows 7. If you have one of these versions of Windows, verify that Windows is fully up to date by downloading and installing software updates from Microsoft. If you have Windows XP with Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows XP Service Pack 2, download and install Service Pack 3 using Windows Update.

  • iTunes online? - Confirm that iTunes has been downloaded and installed.

  • AMDS online? - iPod nano requires Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS), which should be automatically installed with iTunes. To verify whether it is installed, click Start > Control Panel. Open the Add or Remove Programs control panel and verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is visible in the list of currently installed programs. If it is not, remove and reinstall iTunes.

  • Check USB connection. - Disconnect all USB devices from the system with the exception of the iPod nano and any USB keyboard and mouse. Then restart your computer. Verify that you are using a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Test with an alternate iPod USB cable if one is available.

  • AMDS - Re-verify that AMDS is running and installed.

  • iTunes usage - Remove and reinstall iTunes.
hope this helps
