I believe the clutch on my dyson "animal" is stuck. It makes this horrible noise when you try to lower the brush roll to vacuum.

Hi its Darran at Dyson. Your machine is designed to make this ratchet noise if the brush bar is obstructed. We would recommend checking the brush bar and soleplate area and removing any blockages or hairs/threads that are wrapped around the brush bar. Full details on these checks can be found in our Support section online at www.dyson.com. Kind regards Darran Dyson Customer Service

How to replace the bushings

Check the brush roll area closely. There is probably something in there causing the noise. It could be the clutch or the brush roll.

Dyson dc17 making loud sound

It may have a bad clutch belt. When the belt on the clutch begins to slip it makes a terrible noise. If the noise is gone when the brush roll is off you will have to take it to a dealer.

Dyson dc17 makes loud noise on carpet setting. It's like a high pitch ringing almost but won't make the noise on hard floor, only carpet setting. Ive checked for blockages and cleaned all parts but makes...

It is probably the brush roll motor making the noise. Remove the brush roll & belt and turn both motors on. If you do not hear the noise when both motors are running the noise is likely coming from the brush roll

Hi my dyson dc07 animal has suction but the brush bar wont turn. If I turn it on there is a horrible noise. The belt is still fine

The belt is probably worn or stretched. When this happens the belt won't turn the roller brush when it is against the carpet. Here is a link for the manual and links for the belt you need:

Brush bar does not turn & makes a loud noise

You need to clean your roller and replace the clutch assembly that drives the belts. poorly designed vacuum with many flaws.

When I put the vacuum in position to use on rugs, it makes a horrible grinding noise like something is stuck.

Hi If the Dyson model you have has a protected brush model (i.e. roller wheel at the side that goes up automatically to turn off the brush roll) then the belt will have to be replaced by a Dyson engineer. If its not that model and doesn't have the brush roll stop function, check that the roller beater bar and the brush are properly aligned, also checking the main dust channel isn't clogged.

My dyson is making a loud horrible noise

Hi.

Check the brush roller can be moved by hand & that it is not snagging on something.
If it is difficult to rotate remove sole plate by turning the 3 plastic screws to unlock position lift plate off & clean brush roller & check you can turn it after this.
If brush roller is free to rotate the chances are the clutch is faulty & will need to be replaced.
Go to this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/
It has manuals that cover clutch replacing on all Dyson models.
