Does it agitate?
Does it spin by hand?
Does it agitate if you advance the timer?

Could be the lid switch (#1).
Could be a broken motor/pump coupling.
Could be the timer.

Look under the washer for bits of black rubber (indicating the coupling insert has failed.

If the coupling is in place, next, bypass the lid switch temporarily to see if you can trick the unit to think the door is closed (safety mechanism)

if the lid switch is bypassed, the coupling is good, the timer is faulty.

All items in this answer can be found at repairclinic.com and enter your model # in the box.

If you hear the motor trying to spin - the most common problem in this direct drive unit is the rubber coupling element and broken coupling teeth.

Can my Whirlpool LXR7244P04 be fixed?

This is the 'PQ4', if is is that one parts are readily available. The image shows a front loader, but it is a top loader in the schematic. It really depends where the rusty dirt has come from. So yes it can be fixed, but whether economically on a 17 year old machine, that's another story. Call a locally recommended appliance technician to look at it.

I hae a Whirlpool LSR8233EQ1 Top loading washer.

If you can catch it running while in the spin cycle but not spinning ( put a butter knife or screwdriver in the lid switch hole ) and wiggle the timer knob . If it starts spinning during this process , the timer needs replaced . Sometimes though , when a washer does everything BUT spin and you hear the motor running , the transmission is the problem .

Noisy Spin Cycle

hi there,

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping/or sound
during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and
redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.
