Hello,

The only TI cable that is still on sale is the TI Silverlink. It connects to the computer through a USB port. In North America you can finf them at stores that sell school supplies (Staples, Bureau en Gros, Office Depot, Grand and Toys).

Hope it helps.

SOURCE: A friend gave me a TI-86 graphing Calc. I wont turn on!!!

Hey,
The TI-86 will run without a backup battery, I had the same problem as you and then I remembered that the 86 unlike my 89ti has contrast settings that can be not visible. So take out your 86 press the on button, nothings will happen, then press the 2nd key and the up key. Repeat pressing the 2nd and up cursor over and over. I hope this helps you, pretty much all 86 problems can be fixed by yourself.

How do I reset my TI-86 after a long period of no use.

Every time you change batteries this will happen to you. First press 2nd then press and hold the down arrow. Hold until their is no black in the background but you can still see the numbers on the screen.

I've had my ti-86 for a very long time & recently it just quit working. I changed the AAA batteries & the back up battery & it will not come back on. Please help???!!!!

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does it?

I stop using my TI-86 for a few months and know

I hadn't used mine in years and had the same problem. Essentially you just need to give it a workout to get all the pixels working properly again and then it'll be just fine. I adjusted the contrast between full dark and nothing multiple times and turned the calculator on and off after each cycle and now it works like new.

WHY CAN'T I ADD FRACTIONS ON MY TI-86.

Because the TI84 does supports fractions in a funny way. Tap (3/4+1/2) then tap MATH and tap ENTER twice and you get the answer 5/4.
The TI 89 has a MODE called exact/approximate. In the exact MODE it does fractions; 3/4 + 1/2 = 5/4. In the approximate MODE it does decimals; 3/4 + 1/2 = 1.25

TI-83 Plus Silver Edition problem

These instructions are from education.ti.org, and worked for me.

1) Take out one of the AAA batteries
2) Hold down the CLEAR button
3) Put the AAA battery back in while still holding down the CLEAR button
4) Let go of the CLEAR button and turn the calculator ON
5) Press CLEAR to get rid of the error message.

Then you should be good! All the applications on my calculator were still intact, so despite the error message, the RAM was never actually cleared.

Frozen screen ti-84+

i tried furiously blowing in to the back of mine with all 4 AAA batteries and the back up battery removed
then i left the batteries out for 2 days
it works again with really minimum use... you have to repeat the blowing and leaving out nonsense every week
sometimes you regain use by rubbing the AAA batteries back and forth while they're in place

better get a new one if you can afford it

I had the same problem, I took all five batteries out and left it for about an hour and put them back in and it turned on stating that the RAm was clear and now it works fine.
