Question about Alesis M1-Active MkII Main / Stereo Speaker
Pleae help. I bought a pair of Alesis M1 active 620 studion monitor speaker. I have two problems (but only with the one of the two speakers...the other seems perfect)
1. By the low frequencies e.g.: subs the woofer buzzes, its very disturbing, because its pretty loud. And I don't have to listen to music loud to get this problem, it exists also by low volume level.
2. This is the bigger problem. By listening music sometimes the woofer mutes, so... no sound come out of it, and after roughly 5-6 seconds the sound comes back. Then its ok for a while, and after about 2-3 minutes the woofer mutes again, then after 5-6 seconds the sound comes back...and so on...
What can be the routecause by this two problem?
(Additional information: I use XLR cables, passive volume contorl, the speaker gain are set not more than 75% and the volume control was never set more than 50%. I changed the cables, supposing that is the problem, but didn't help)
There clearly is a fault in the sub's amp section. It's probably the main part that does most of the work. It will need to be replaced.

It could be a power problem, unless you have blown the driver ?, carefully pull out the power supply board, and look to see if anything looks melted, burned, or capacitors popped etc. Be carefull though as I do not want to be responsible if you get an electric shock, etc. preferably look and dont touch, just use common sense ;)

SOURCE: woofer doesn't work
sounds like the voice coil could be open or damaged. the woofer can be reconed. reconing replaces all the moving parts in the speaker frame returning to new condition in most cases.

Sure they don't have power? Light breaks all the time on those things. If no power still, open it up and find out if there are any loose connections from the power leads. Bad power cable?
