Someone is sending email using my aol address. Some are from my address book and list no Subject, they heve no message. Many many others are sent and not are not delivered but returned to me with message following address had a permanent error. There have been dozens of such messages. My Norton coverage ran a complete scan and there were no worms, viruses, or trojans. Was told by Norton to request an anti spam progam installation. Will this clear up problem, and how did my email address get used to send so many unidentified messages? Most of the addresses I have never used or contacted. Barb

Norton was right in recommending Anti Spam program on your computer. There are several ways a person can sent emails using your email address ( read fake mailer). People often plays pranks using these tools. You can use anybody's email address to send anonymous emails if you search a bit more on internet. You can install Spam Fighter which is a good tool to ward off spams from your inbox.

I would contact AOL and tell them what's been going on. It's possible that someone guessed your password without using a spy program. I haven't used AOL in a few years, but here is where you can get their contact information. I'm surprised Norton didn't tell you that. Good luck, hope it's just someone messing around and nothing serious.

Arlene, I can describe a problem that is common, called spoofing. When someone receives an email thought to be from you, we immediately think that our email has been hacked. You may be the victim of a spoof, where a hacker uses your address book to send out viruses or just annoyances to everyone in your address book. Spammers use this technique to hide their identity (like putting someone else's return address on an envelope). Some are harmless, others harmful, all are invasive. You may be able to get rid of the problem by running a malware detection program (I use malwarebytes, which is free to private users, and I run it at least once per month.), but you should also change your password in your instant messenger/email/facebook account, etc. In fact, it is a good idea to change your passwords regularly to keep the unfriendly out. I hope this helps.

Strange emails in gmail

Most likely someone you have sent an email to in the past has had their computer hacked, exposing your email address, and now your email address is on a distribution list.

Nothing you can really do about this but mark as spam and possibly set up a gmail filter with some consistent common feature in the subject or message to always send them to spam or trash.

People have sent me mails to my yahoo account but when I log into yahoomail the mail is not seen. i.e new mails are not coming in at all. I have checked all the settings and they seemed OK. Please help

Send an email to any one of these people and ask them to use the 'Reply' function of their mail program. Specifically ask them to use the generated 'to:' address and not to type in your email address. You want to eliminate 'finger trouble (splelign erorrs)' as a possibility.

If you receive these replies, the problem might be with the senders not typing in your name perfectly. They could also be spelling the domain portion of the address incorrectly. gmail.com is not the same as gmail.net and gmail.us - if those even exist.

Check your spam folder. In gmail, I have never had a problem with real messages going in to the spam folder.I never even look anymore.

At a former employer i had lots of messages flagged as possible SPAM with the word SPAM added to the Subject field of the message.

How to send email

Hi,

Sending an email is a very easy task. To open yahoomail, click on www.yahoomail.com

On the top-right side, below the Yahoo!'s logo, click on the button labeled "New"

On the box labeled "To", enter the email address of the person you want to send the mail. You can write the Subject on the box labeled "Subject".

Once done, writeup your mail on the Space provided below. When done, just hit the Send button. You can also attach files using the Attach button.

Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using Fixya.

People from my address book have been receiving messages sent from my email address but I am not the one sending them! These messages do not register in my sent box. Has someone got hold of my account...

It could be possible as more and more people are complaining about hacks these times. To avoid any security trouble you should change your password and maybe your additionnal e-mail address (if you have an other one) password.
Try to find something difficult to find with numbers/letters and without any link to your personnal life/informations.
If after that your address book still receive email from your address but not you you should think about changing all your passwords/email addresses or to contact yahoo support.

Cannot send email from Yahoo

Log in to your Yahoo! Mail account at http://mail.yahoo.com with your User ID and password.

On the page that opens, find the "NEW" button in the upper-left corner, beside CHECK MAIL. Click it and send email to any valid email address.
  • Type in the email address for whom you are writing to in the "To:" field.
  • In the "Subject" field, enter the subject of your message.
  • Use the large text box to type your message.
  • Click "Send" to send your message.
Presto your message has been sent after you click SEND!

When i reply to emails sometimes the message does not register in the sent folder but goes in the draft folder instead, how do i know if my email has been sent?

They will only go to the draft folder if you accidentally click the Save to Draft option instead of Send. It is very easy to do! If an email has been sent it will go, by default, to the Sent folder.

If you locate the email that you have replied to or sent then highlight it and then right click on it a drop down list will appear.

Select and click the View Full Headers option at the bottom of the list. This will give a popup window containing header info. If you read through it will show the following:

  1. From which should be your email plus the date and time
  2. a whole bunch of misc characters
  3. From with your name / email address shown
  4. Subject – whatever the email subject was
  5. To – Name / email address of who you sent the email to or replied to
  6. Content Type – plus some unintelligible info
  7. Content Length – which is the true size of the email plus any attachments.

If you can see this then it conforms that you message has been successfully sent from you email account.

Note: It does not show or guarantee that the email has been received or read at the recipients end.
