Garmin won't charge or turn on.

Replace the battery. Amazon sells battery replacement kits that come with the needed screwdriver. If it is still under warranty, contact Garmin Support.

The traffic receiver is in the car charger cable. The charger should have a red light on if it is getting power. If the light is on and the unit is not charging and you have no traffic, the charger cable is bad. If the light is off, then either the fuse did not fix the problem, blew again, or is somehow not sitting properly in the charger. Another thing you can check is by using the unit in another vehicle. If it works fine there, then the charger is not making good contact with your vehicle outlet for some reason. You will probably have to buy a new traffic receiver charging cable.

Sometimes this problem is caused by the charger plug not going far enough into the mini usb socket of the satnav. It feels as if it's fully in but it's not. Pushing it in further usually solves the problem. As your charger is not a garmin make there's no guarantee but there should be very little difference so it's worth a try.

If your Garmin NUVI 205 can be recognized by your computer when plugged in, I recommend you backup your favorites.

Then I suggest attempting a hard reset.

Finally, replace the firmware and system software using webupdate. Your Nuvi should not need to be able to power up for a firmware update to be possible - replacing the firmware should allow it to power up successfully after the update.

This is a new set of symptoms to me, but whenever these devices start acting up, I recommend performing a hard reset of your Gamin Nuvi 205. Also, use Garmin's WebUpdater service to make sure you have the latest software on your device.

My garmin Nuvi (205 I think) just stopped working...blank screen, does nothing? Was working fine a few hours ago. Car plug in lights up when plugged in but still nothing.

Here is a nice trick to use the Garmin while charging with a USB cord or a wall charger: with the Garmin unplugged keep your finger on the battery icon for about 10 seconds until the diagnostic screen comes up. Then connect the USB cord and press EXIT; the Garmin will reboot and you will be able to use it normally.

Have you already tried the webupdater or registred the device on garmin.com? There you should get an free mapupdate which could replace your broken maps.
