The maximum size SD card you can use is 2GB because that is the maximum size SD card you can buy. Cards bigger than that are SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) cards. Fortunately the TZ3 is capable of using SDHC cards of 4GB and larger.

When we put an SD card in, onTV we get 3" grey

This is a tv setting problem, not a camera problem. If you have a widescreen tv, it can be set to several width aspects. Check your tv manual for instructions.

Lumix dmc-lz2 how high can the sd memory card go and which brand should I buy?

SD cards max out at 2GB. The manual states 1GB as the maximum size, but 1GB SD cards are getting very hard to find. You should be able to use a 2GB card.

When I turn my camera on it reads "pictures will be recorded to built in memory". I have an SD ultra II 4.GB memory card inserted which I know isn't full. How do I get my camera to save to memory...

A card that size is actually an SDHC card. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different. Many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

I expect your camera just won't work with this kind of card. It is often difficult to find out the maximum capacity memory card a camera will use, as today's cards are much larger that those available when the manual for the camera was written.

Lumix DMC-TZ3

Memory card likely has temporary(needs formatting) or permanent problems(needs replacing, common for off branded china junk).

First format the mem card on your camera by pressing center Menu button then scrolling down to the end of the menu to Format. If this does not work, and you have bought a Name Brand SD card; Sandisk/Kingston/Patriot etc, return it to place of purchase with receipt, or creditcard use to purchase it, and they will replace it.
