There are several ways to upload photos from your camera to the PC without using the Canon software:
1- Take out the memory chip from the camera and connect it directly to the PC using a suitable USB card reader. Windows might ask you what to do with the files, choose Open Folder. Otherwise go to Start/My Computer/ will show the card as an external disc with the photo files inside some folders. Ctrl+A will select all the photos Copy/Paste to your Photos folder in the PC.
2- Connect the Camera directly to the PC using the USB cable provided when you bought the camera. Switch the camera on into review mode, then follow the procedure above.
3- Use Google's picasa ( free from www.picasa.com ) and use the import function either from the card or from the camera after connecting them following the above procedures.
