Acer aspire 5100 cd/dvd-rom

Hello I reinstalled windows XP on my acer 5100 and after it I can't burn DVD. there is not a problem with cd burning or reading. Could it be that it is a problem of cd/dvd rom firmware or it is simply broken? Thanks

What burning software are you using, are their any errors or does the cd just fail, visually on the cd/dvd, does it appear to be writting to the disk?

My aspire DVD drive will not work

I see ..if it reads the cd and dvd-s it is probably good and all you have to do is to reinstall the program that u use to burn disks ..but about the second issue with the sound ..try to reinstall the sound driver ..maybe its corrupt ..also look at the settings in the sound driver to see if it isn't maybe locked on left from balance ..but if you cant figure just reinstall the sound driver too ...
By the way if you was using vista program to burn dvd an cd ...just reinstall the whole machine ..it might just fix all the problems..I suspect that its bug-ed

DVD/CD-ROM drive missing

Problem with missing dvd-drive with Acer 5101 solved.
Problem was that depending on boot, even bios couldn?t detect dvd-drive. I
opened my laptop and found out that there were one small screw that wasn?t
connected to anywhere. I opened the screw that locks dvd-drive in to 2.5? slot. In the back of the
dvd-drive is L- shaped peace of metal. One of it?s screws were already dropped
and 2 that were left were loose. I tightened those screws, but drive back and
got my laptop working fine.

Acer Aspire 5100 no longer "sees" its cd/dvd drive- anywhere.

You can check the BIOS to see if the drive is recognized and even attempt to boot from the drive using a bootable CD to verify it is functional (if using the Windows disc - just verify it reads - DO NOT REINSTALL)

If the drive works use the following to get the drive back in Windows:

Always backup your registry before editing and use care to find exact key!
Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Quit Registry Editor.

Reboot.

NOTE: You might need to reinstall any CD recording apps you have, if they start to not work completely, after doing this.

Cd/Dvd Drive

You need to read on the drive and see exactly what type of drive it is. A DVD-ROM drive is read only and will NOT burn DVD's. The drive needs to read DVD-RW, in order to burn DVD's.

DVD burn

Chances are that your laptop has a CD burner and a DVD rom which only reads DVD's but will burn regular CDs

Hope this helps

Cd burner

Hi moose,

Go to Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware tab>Device manager. Click the + by DVD/CD-rom drives, see if your CDrom is listed. If it is, right click on it, and select Uninstall.
Reboot, and WIndows should find it, and reload it. If it doesn't show up, good chance your CDrom is dead.

Good Luck
