Troubleshooting for modem.

Problem:-
User's modem does not dial or does not connect.
Tip:-
Prove that computer is connected with phone line and check that phone line contains dial tone.Therefor check that connection is connect or not.

  • Connection may not be less than six feet (1.8 meter).
  • Check dial tone by plug in the phone in phone jack.
  • If user has many more services (such as call waiting,call messaging OR voice mail) then check that these all are cleared or not and check call waiting is disabled while using modem.
  • Disconnect any answering machine,fax machine or printer which are on line with modem.
  • Check that are you not using digital,rollover or PBX line?These type of lines not works with modem.
  • Try with another phone line. (For this, you have another phone number or another phone line).If user connected with another line then you need to complain in phone company.
  • Try to connect modem with low connection speed.

No Dial tone using Symantec Winfax Pro 10 on Windows 98

Check the physical connection of the phone line to the computer make sure that it is connected to phone line symbol of the Ethernet adapter. Then make sure that the driver of the adapter is installed properly on the computer or you can try to scan the hardware first before the re-installation of the driver using the adapter.

modem says no dial tone detected

Good morning! It's common to a Dial-Up connection to drop the line during session as signal strength is going low eventhough modem is working properly. Please try to use DSL / Broadband connection as signal strength is 1Mbps or greater. best regards.

wizard wont create a dialup connection using vista i have updated the modem drivers and the modem is in my device manager

Follow these instructions to create a dial-up connection on your computer. Then you can get on the Internet to receive/send email and browse the web.

From the Start menu, click on Connect To
Click on Set up a connection or network
Click Set up a dial-up connection
Click Next. Enter the required information for the connection:
Dial-up phone number: 513-520-1135
User Name: (the NCF accountID that was assigned to you)
Password: (the password chosen by you when you registered)
Remember this password(check this box)
Connection Name:NCF Internet - Libertel
Allow other people to see this connection: Check this if you want this connection for all users on your computer (recommended)
Note: if you have Call Waiting, temporarily disable it for the duration of your NCF connection byusing *70,,613-520-1135 as the phone number.
*The NCF dialup phone number is in area code 613 in Ottawa. Please note that long distance charges may apply to modems outside of your local calling area.

Click Connect to create and save this connection.
You have successfully created a Dial-up Connection in Windows Vista.

To connect to the NCF using the connection you have now created, follow these steps:
  1. Click on Start, and then Connect To.
  2. Left click on the NCF Internet - Libertel dialup-up connection and select Connect at the bottom.
  3. The Dial-up windows will come up. Simply click on Dial and your computer will connect to the NCF

New computer running slow

if you are using dial up, you shud not have a modem.. modem is just for DSL connection
if you have a modem probably you are using a DSL connection

DEFINITION:
dial up - connection using a phone line with internet connection; cannot use fone while on internet

DSL/modem- connection using a modem plugged in with computer and fone line; able to use fone even when on internet.
