Hissing? How loud? A sub isn't even capable of making high frequency sounds at normal volumes.

The Pioneer manual would tell you how to enable and test the subwoofer output.

I have a Fisher RS-909 Surrond Sound amplifier. It has no "sub out" jack. I had the sub-woofer working in the past by wiring it as shown in the manual. The problem is that the system was in...

Alright i had a chance to look over things, this is how you are going to hook up the sub. first we'll be connecting the surround sound unit to the sub woofer.
surround sound unit sub woofer
left front: positive (+) <-----to------------->(+) left speaker level in
negative ( - )<- - -to- - - - - - ->( - ) left speaker level in

right front: positive (+) <-----to------------->(+) right speaker level in
negative ( - )<- - -to- - - - - - >( - ) right speaker level in

now that the surround sound unit is connected to the sub woofer you will need to connect the front surround sound speakers to the sub woofer.
sub woofer front surround sound speaker
left speaker level out (+)<-----to--------> (+) left front speaker
left speaker level out( - ) <- - - to- - - - ->( - ) left front speaker

right speaker level out (+)<-----to--------> (+) right front speaker
right speaker level out( - ) <- - - to- - - ->( - ) right front speaker

Alright now that the wires are all over the place and plugged in
turn everything on and see how it sounds. let me know if everything is working as it should. if you need help with anything else or if something does not seem right please feel free to contact me via e-mail or phone

If i increase the sub woofer volume the voice distorts and gives a buzzing sound. it works fine on low volume

Your sub woofer is not mean for voice sound...check that you have connected the systen up properly and that you have put the sub woofer into its wn connection..if it is in the right connection the woofer could be blown.also try decrease the midrange hurts on the woofer

RCA Sub-Woofer

Did you try making sure the subwoofer is turned on under the set up menu on the Sony Receiver?

Press Set Up, Press the left or right button above the scroll wheel until you get to SW. It should say SW: ON or SW: OFF. If it says SW: OFF, use the Scroll wheel to scroll right until it says SW: ON. Also, make sure you aren't in 2CH mode, try A.F.D or surround sound.

HTS 6500/37 sub woofer

the reciever should have a "subwoofer level" setting, or a "bass level control" If you cannot find this then try to place the "sub-woofer" away from walls and elevate it from the floor. This will reduce it's loudness/ intensity at annoying frequencies...

Good Luck
