Dish vip 622 and vip 722k frequent picture freeze and restart
Dish vip 622 and vip 722k receivers - have had several of each, have an issue with frequent picture freeze then device restart. on the 622 it was usually within 2 months of install (4 different 622 devices), but on the 722 it was within 10 minutes of install (2 vip722k devices). The installer came back and reterminated all of the cables. I have moved the power around to different outlets/circuits, i have moved the box around to try to maximize airflow, and it keeps happening. Dish cannot fix this, but I would love to know a solution as it is unwatchable, no point in recording anything as they keep swapping boxes instead of trying to solve the problem. Any information or additional troubleshooting steps would be appreciated. Our vip722k is running software level l660rmmb-n. This is a 3 day old receiver replacing a 1 week old receiver replacing a 2 week old receiver (on and on and on - this is our 7th receiver).

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble, but would be happy to provide assistance on this. Try pressing 0 on the remote to exit out of the application. Are you able to move around on the screen, or is it giving no function at all?
If you are hearing audio but no picture unplug the receiver for 10 seconds and plug back in. This will reset the receiver and it will reboot itself for you once plugged in. This should resolve the issue, but if you continue to experience problems please e-mail me at [email protected] and we may need to replace the receiver.
Hi jesterr9 my name is Mike Houston of DISH Network Executive Office. When you receiver is showing internal communication and keeps resetting the can be a couple different things making this happen. It may not have the current software downloaded as well it may have a bad smartcard inside as well. The current software as of 1/12/11 for the VIP 211 is L5.61. To find the current software press the MENU button two times.
It sounds like something else may be causing an issue. Since so many replacements have been made, but the problem persists I would recommend getting a technician out to look at the problem to make sure everything else is fine.
There are multiple causes of this ; Line of sight issues due to moving foilage, bad lnb,bad cabling, bad ground block, barrels, or diplexers, improper network configuration, faulty receiver, or electrical issues causing the draw on the circuit the receiver is on to dop to an insufficient level. This can hold true even if there is another receiver present and working perfectly.
Sorry there really is no simple answer just trail and error to this problem. Have a tech diagnose for you on site. Thanks for using Fix Ya.
When you bring up your guide look at the top of the screen and you will see the LIST: if this says ALL HD then press the guide button until you see ALL SUB or a menu and select ALL SUB. If your guide keeps changing by itself its possible to have remote interfence since you have a UHF remote, especially if you also see channel changes as well. Try setting the guide and go from there. If you still continue to have issues call 1-800-333-3474 for tech support for extensive troubleshooting or at dishnetwork .com/tech.
You more than likely are 100 percent correct. This is often the cause of the issue you had. The good news is that once the new receiver is in place you normally will not have any other issues as this receiver model is very reliable. One thing to consider is that Dish has some HD receivers available e.g. 222 etc that are non DVR but can act as a DVR unit with an external hard drive connected to the USB expansion port. This option gives you greater control of your recordings and eliminates the monthly DVR fee. There is a one time fee of 39.99 to make the USB port active but within the normal 24 month contract period that customers are often under one will have recovered all of the cost a the hard drive and the port activation fee. Just fodder for thought.
Edy, I am not going to say that this is the definite issue but Dish only has receivers that are 1080i compatible at the time which will give you some blurring and possible pixellating. 1080p will resolve these issues in the future. Therefore if you still need help let me know.
First let me apologize for the treatment you received by Dish. It certainly is not our typical response to a customer issue and we are trying hard to weed out the employees that we have to project that type of image to our customers.
Dish has a lot of problems with their inventory of Vip 622's of late. You definitely need another receiver but I would recommend an upgrade to the 722 as these have less than a 3% failure rate. I am assuming this is a new problem and did not exist prior to the need for the first replacement.
The only thing that could possibly cause this issue to continue to occur is if the receiver is in a confined space. There must be at least three inches around the receiver and it can not be in a closed environment without a cooling device such as a fan in the enclosure. Also remember to keep the vent holes on the receiver free of obstructions such as another electronic device sitting atop the receiver. Thanks for using Fix Ya and let me know if I can be of further assistance.
