Re-insert the cassette error message

My Sony Digital Video Camera Recorder DCR-TRV270E PAL was working fine, but now when I put in the cassette, a few seonds after recording, an error message appears on the LCD screen:RE-INSERT THE CASSETTE. When I eject after several trials and put back the cassette, the same message comes again, with another one: REATTACH THE POWER SOURCE. I am unable to record or play back. Please help! There is work to do. Thanks.

I prayed and found the solution on another site. The solution is: SMACK THE CAMERA ON EITHER SIDE REAL HARD! That's it! I thought it was a silly idea or that I would damage the camera. But I did just that, and now my camcorder is working fine! No more error messages. This solves the RE-INSERT TAPE problem.

For the REATTACH THE POWER SOURCE problem, simply press the tiny reset button where the LCD screen closes over it. (You will need to look for it; it's hard to locate.) Then when the camera whirrs after resetting, press the eject button. That's all.

Hope it works for you just as it worked for me.

This SO works! I've been stressing because I couldn't figure out how to fix it and don't have the money to send it off! I tried it and after I ejected the video and reinserted it, it started working! Just in time to catch my kids dressed up for Halloween! YAY!

Yeah Amfo_1 was right. I didn't believe it would work but just to amuse myself I gave it a slight tap on either side. Still had the problem but after I ejected the tape and reinserted it the camera worked just fine. Interesting solution but since it works Im not complaining.

I am still shaking my head. My kids came to me about a year and a half ago with our camcorder giving them this same "re-insert tape" massage. I thought to myself at the time, "great! one more thing on my to-do list." After tinkering with the thing half heartedly I set it aside. The camera sat collecting dust and being shuffled from one corner of my office to another. My kids recently came to me again to see if I couldn't get the camera working. After tinkering some more with no luck. So I decided to see if there was anyone else out there on the web that had the same issue with their Sony Handycam DCR-TRV280 Digital-8 Digital Camcorder. And low and behold, there were! After a little searching I came across this solution and said to myself, "you've got to be kidding me!" Well, no they weren't kidding. After a couple of smart whacks, SHAZAM! The Camcorder works great!
