You are having a problem with one of the three main components of the the defrost system. Look into rear of your freezer to see if ice and frost is beginning to build up on the rear panel. If yes begin manual defrost by unplugging and remove contents of freeze. Even better send me the model number of your Whirlpool. That is how I tell you were the problem began most likely. Look around the door frame and inside the fresh food section sea Breeze

Unplug refrigerator and examine both sides of that board. You may find burn marks, Not always. The next step will be to test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. Defrost heater Click here=> W10140847 Hope this has been helpful, Thanks Sea Breeze

You have a defrost condensate drain blockage where all the water from defrost remains inside the freezer compartment and causes the symptons you are having. I cannot tell you how to remove every model numbers freezer rear panel but I think that if you study over my link here=> Leaking Refrigerators and this link HERE you will get an idea of what to do. Freezer is not working. Ice maker is working. Started noticing the past 2 weeks that ice cream is melting. Refrigerator is working but not keeping things really cold. The unit is only 3 years old.

ice mker will soon quit as when ice cream is soft the tempt is rising . look for frost build up in back wall of freezer . if so the heaters have failed ( very common ) . they will have to be replaced . there is a new style that replaces mose G E heaters . and they are much better .. mm

Freezer is cold but not keeping icecream frozen.

If, the fresh food section is 34- 38 degrees, then the freezer should be cold enough to keep ice cream solid. All of the cooling capability comes from the freezer section. I, personally, would not waste time or money on a ten year old box. Ten years ago it cost $1000, so, the outlay is $100 per year. Dump the old refrigerator and get a new one.

My ice cream won't stay frozen in my freezer.

Hi: Meat and other frozen foods will be rock solid at 32degrees. Ice cream will be soft it needs 0degrees to be hard. It sounds like your freezer is above 0 degrees. You tried the adjustments. Make sure the coils on the bottom are clean. They will warm a ref if they are dirty. A coil brush from the hardware store or a air compressor (plan on dusting the house when done. Just vaccuuming the front isn't enough. That's an older model but one of the controls affects both the freezer and fresh food. When it's running turn one down; if it turns off the compressor it affects both. The other control is just an air balance, to direct how much air gets to each compartment. I hope this helps, Jeff

Bottom freezer not keeping ice cream frozen

Check out freezer temp - should be around zero degrees. Fact that ice maker is still working would indicate that the temps are at least about 10 degrees. If the door seals are tight and the self defrosting mechanism is working properly, the unit may be low on refrigerant. I had similar situation where stuff was frozen but my ice cream was mushy even though unit was running 24 hours a day.

Cuisinart ice cream-frozen yougurt maker& sorbet maker CIM 60 series

I have the same problem, but it seems that it has gotten worse with time. When I first bought this product 6 years ago it worked fine, now the bowl won't freeze entirely and it has been in the freezer for two days (at the lowest freezer setting). I am wondering if the freezer bowl has a life span.
