Changing the oil filter on a lawn tractor

On a garden tractor model cv409s lt2000 serial 3412011603; when changing the oil filter do you need to pour oil into the filter or just oil the mouth of the oil filter?

If it is a screw on type oil filter, apply a film of oil on seal, then screw on. If you want to, go ahead and pour some oil in the filter, in my opinion the oil will circulate faster if there is some oil already in the filter.

some of these have oil sensors.. you could bypass it just to check if this is the problem .. check the oil !! there is a solenoid on the carb also that shuts the gas off..jay

Possibly the needle valve in the carb. fuel bowl.

check the oil level might have low oil sensor on it. Also make sure the engine is clean (no built up oil and dirt on the motor itself or the fins on the motor)

Cant find our owner's manual this spring; how much oil does our tractor hold when we change it for the season? It's a Craftsman LT2000 which I think may be a 917-288031

start out with a pint and check it if it's still reading low add a little at a time until it gets to the full mark..good luck

Lawn Tractor 1000, oil chg

there is no filter. but when you drain the oil. start by adding a 1/4 quart and check the level. if still low keep adding (little at a time) until it reaches the full mark on dipstick...good luck

Cratsman lt2000 lawn tractor will start but will not move forward or backward. I tried changing the drive belt, but that didn't work.

Is the transaxle pulley turning? If so have you removed the rear wheel recently and possibly lost the square key that fits on the axle?check those two items first.If ok it probably has a broken gear or shift key in transaxle.

I would change the air filter and might even take a hair dryer and carefully dry the engine components, with particular attention to wiring connections and ignition components. Sounds like it needs to be dried out some. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Try changing the its oil-seals. The problem lies there. It may be damaged or the oil-seals are now smaller than its is used to and it is because of the heat. The oil-seal are rounded things that are made of rubber.
