My ipod has a folder with a triangle and exclaimation mark. I have tried to restore it but wont work and isnt recognised on I tunes .Eventually tells me I pod is corrupted how do I restore it ?

Your ipod may be corrupted and will need to be wiped and restored.
First of all try another lead to connect your ipod to pc.
Also look inside bottom of ipod to check no bent pins in ipod dock.
Also reinstall itunes incase of program corruption.
If still not working you will have to put ipod in disk mode.
Switch ipod off then switch hold button on and off then hold down centre putton and bottom pause button until TICK appears.You are in Disk mode.
Go to file explorer and right click your ipod if shown,Chose FORMAT then chose restore device defaults and restore. Once formatted open itunes and connect ipod with good lead.Ipod can now be restored from backup or a clean restore can be done

when you enter wrong passcode many time than your iphone will be disabled locked. and only option available is restore iphone with recent backup. so you wont lost much data.
Below trick is working with ipod you can try it with iphone and at the end of the post i have given detail procedure for how to restore iphone without deleting data.

First try to recover your password for that connect your iphone to computer via usb cable.
Now ipod iphone is recognize by computer and find the folder named ipod. Now browse ipod folder and open ipod_control folder , inside that folder there is ipod _unlock file. Try to edit that file with some software to recover your password inside that file otherwise. Delete or rename that file and power of your ipod and restart it. There is other way to recover password but when I put such answer my answer marked as spam and deleted and some senior member using that answer method for their answer and get reputation.
Ipod got disabled when you have entered wrong passcode many times. And to unlock this passcode either recover your passcode from ipod or restore your ipod via ituens.
For that connect ipod to computer and if ipod is recognized by computer then open itunes click on device tab then summary tab on right side pane you will find restore ipod.Click on restore ipod and ipod will be restored but this will erase all data on ipod.
If you don't want to delete data then there is option to restore ipod from backup. So restore ipod from recent backup. For that open itunes - click on devices and right click on ipod there you will find option restore from backup.
If none of above method can solve your problem then enter into dfu or recovery mode. For that connect your ipod via usb cable to computer and thenPower off your ipod, now press and hold power button and home button for 15 seconds, now release power buttonbut keep holding home button now itunes will detect ipod in recovery mode now restore your ipod. There are many iPod error icons with exclamation marks

The Sad iPod icon ( ) usually means that the iPod can't access it's Hard Drive. I've seen that hitting the ipod on a soft surface occasionally fixes this. You may need to take the iPod for repair

The Folder Error icon () may mean the battery is low, the ipod needs to be reset, restored or needs a service

The Battery Icon () usually means the battery needs charging

means a disk scan failed and will be repeated when the ipod is turned on or reset.

Try restoring it continuouly until it does (eventually worked for mine)

if it is anything else, your iPod may need repair.

Listen to the iPod when it is connected to the computer. Do you hear repetitive clicking sounds from the hard drive? If so, your hard drive is broken. Hi, As i understand you see a folder with exclamation mark on it...

So 1st you hav to try resting the ipod.... Try to press and hold the menu and the center button for approx 6 to 8 secs... then once you see a Apple logo release the buttons. this should work

Other solution would be restoring your ipod to factory settings by connecting it to computer and restoring it using itunes... then update the software as well

If not... try to connect the ipod to computer and then open Mycomputer....Right click on ipod.... then format it.... wait for the format process... then using itunes restore it to factory settings

for hayzlbe: connect it to its AC charger when you're connecting to a computer. n make sure you have an USB 2 port

for Teeen: if you have an hard drive ipod, just give it a shake/shock on your palm. you might get lucky n it might start working again. cuz it worked for me once after i dropped it on the hard cement floor from 2 meters height.

What OS do you have?

Dear Rachel, This is often the result of a corrupt file system or a dead/dying internal iPod hard drive.  The way to eliminate the file system as the cause is to do a RESTORE.  It is probably not showing up on the computer in iTunes, so you need to try to force it into disk mode.  To do this, follow the instructions below: 1)  Toggle the HOLD slider switch to ON then OFF again.  First slide over you will see orange, then slide it back to cover the orange in the hold slider.
2)  Repeat what you did by holding down the menu and select buttons and when you get the Apple logo, IMMEDIATELY let go and hold down the Select and Play buttons.
3)  You SHOULD see a check mark on the screen and along the top of the screen should be the words, "Disk Mode."  If that is there, plug in your iPod to the computer and wait for iTunes to startup.  
4)  In iTunes, select the iPod and then just click on the RESTORE YOUR IPOD button to reinstall the original software (you will lose your tunes stored in your iPod, but you should have them on your iTunes anyway).
