I turned my starite pump on and it just hummed for about 5 seconds then cut off. What could be wrong?

Your pump motor or impeller is seized. Disassemble the pump housing and check the impeller to see if it spins freely. If not then check for debris, if impeller appears to be free of debris, then check the shaft seal and motor. If the shaft seal is leaking water, then the motor bearing is likely rusted and will need to be replaced. There are 2 bearings, replace them both along with the shaft seal

My car starts and shuts off after 3-5 seconds.

with key in ON position can you hear the fuel pump humming uder the middle of car? the pump should hum for about 10 to 15 seconds, then go off and come back on when the key is turned off and then key turned back on.could possibly be a bad fuel filter, or a fuel pump going bad, it's definitly a fuel issue because it starts. try replacing the most inexpensive thing 1st. the fuel filter and then the fuel pump. hope this helps!!!

Am trying to open pool, motor hums but will not run

Sounds like COULD BE something (a small stone or twig) jammed in the impeller. See if you can spin it using a long screwdriver, if it moves, it is not jammed. If it spins, I hate to say it might be the motor is gone.

I have a '96 cavalier that makes a humming noise in the gas tank within 5 seconds of starting. I have tried two fuel pumps but the noise is still there!!!

Your fuel pump is supposed to hum, when you turn the key it primes the system and it will hum. When the car is running the fuel pump is running and it will hum. If the noise is excessive then try a higher quality fuel pump, it may be less noisy. You will hear the fuel pump on a lot of vehicles tho when you are sitting at a stop light with your radio off and everything quiet in the car.

Ford focus 1.8 1999 engine turns over but won't start

you may not have enough fuel presur yet. try this -
turn key to on, listen for fuel pump noise (humming) for about 5 seconds. If no hum, you have a problem. If it hums, good. Now, turn key off for 30 seconds and turn key to "on" again. Repeat 5 times. Then try to start car.

The fel pump does run in "start" mode continually.
