Coffee pot I just bought a cheap $10 Durabrand 12 cup coffee pot. When I used the coffee pot the first time, my coffee tasted funny, alomst like a chemical or plastic. I ran several pots of plain water through the pot, tried again, same taste. I then put vinegar through the pot, followed by several pots of water. The taste and smell is still there. Any suggestions? I've bought several coffee pots over my life time and never ran into this before. Even if you can put me in touch with the manufacturer that would be helpful. Thank you! Mikki

Betty Crocker coffee maker, 12 cup. Not sure of number -- we don't have the box and the manual was lost. Chemical smell from the plastic, and chemical taste from the coffee. After using vinegar and cold water, chemical taste improved somewhat, but the chemical smell of the coffee maker itself was always very strong and very unpleasant even after 2 weeks. It couldn't be washed away. We no longer have the coffee maker, but is this a common problem? We've never had it before.

Durabrand has no contacts outside china this is a unit made for and imported for walmart only walmart is the only contact ...... your problem is not anything you or walmart can do anything about the problem is the cheap plastic that is used , when it gets hot some people can taste and smell it and others cant . .. its getting more common in everthing that heats water .. personaly i would not drink anything from an appliance that puts a plastic taste in my water ..... if you move up in price the problem is reduced , better plastics are used , but your not going to get one for 10.00 ! "you get what you pay for " more now than ever .... good luck Please if this answer helped , please rate this 3 or 4 stars . and keep me in the paid answer department . A 1 or 2 may knock me down into the unpaid ranks. Thanks Cactus Bob

I lost the user manual to my 30 + cup coffee percolator and I need to know the amount of grounds to use when brewing coffee!

Hi,
Use approx. 1/2 cup of coffee to 10 cups of coffee....so for a full pot use 1-1/2 cups... then adjust to taste..

12 cup coffee pot how much coffee grinds do you use ?

Hello. Start with 1 Tablespoon per cup and give it a taste test. If thats too much use less next time. If thats not enough use more next time. Soon you'll have it just right.

Funny tasting coffee

Vinegar/water cleaning is a good idea, but it won't necessarilly solve funny-tasting coffee. First, replace your charcoal water filter - you can get the Cuisinart brand-name replacements at Lowe's, Bed/Bath/Beyond, or Williams-Sonoma in most areas.

To do the vinegar/water cleaning, just pour 1/3 caraffe distilled white vinegar and 2/3 caraffe water into the water reservoir and brew it like it was regular coffee - I would simply bypass the self-clean function if your Cuisinart has one. Repeat up to 3 times, using a fresh batch of vinegar each time.
(if you have the caraffe-less DCC-2000, then just pour in 4 cups vinegar and 6 cups water).

Then run a full cycle of water. Then run a combo of 12 tsp lemon juice and 12 cups water (or 10 tsp and 10 cups water) to improve the taste.

On your next batch of coffee, use bottled water just to rule out any possibility that your local water supply may be contributing to funny-tasting coffee.

Now your coffee should be tasting fine again.

Mr Coffee Maker FTX25 - coffee tastes bad

Try running a 1/3 white vinigar -2/3 water mix into the brewer, let it brew, then run several pots of clear water through it. This should clean up any bad taste.

Coffee tastes like plastic!

We have had our DCC-1200 for 3 months. The plastic taste occurs about every 3rd pot, and it does NOT get better. We've wasted over a pound of coffee. Cuisinart says we are the only people in the world with the problem. Well, I guess not...

More Steam Less Coffee

I had same problem after 4 months. very slow brew time, 10 cups of water poured in made about 6 cups of coffee. I used a packaged coffee pot cleaner powder and this fixed the problem (for now).
