Starter bendix is bad, starter is turning, causing the whirring sound, but bad bendix isn't pushing the gear up to mesh with the flywheel teeth. Repair bendix or replace starter.
Sounds like the solenoid is bad. Most solenoids connect positive + from the battery. One side will read 12 volts (with the black wire of a test meter or test light. (The side connected to the battery). Energize the solenoid (loud click) And with the key held, check the other side for voltage. No voltage, bad solenoid. Be careful when you buy a replacement. Many look the same but do different things.
Hi,if you hear clicking it could be the board that powers the lamp its called the ballast Was the fan running ok? You can clean it w an air pressure can. If you heard clicking or like wanting to turn on the problem could be with the board that powers the lamp. The board it's called the ballast. If its not able to provide the power to the lamp it will not turn it on and the red light will blink. Also pay attention to sounds off buzzing which could indicate a color wheel issue.
Your battery sounds like it is dead, check it and get a new one. the clicking sounds to me like the starter, they will make a loud clicking noise when there is not enough juice to get them turning.
Sounds like your deck may be bent in and the blade is hitting. Remove the sparkplug and tilt the mower back on the handle (I'm assuming this is a push mower) and have someone pull the rope while you watch the blade underneath. You should see the problem.
