Go to the control panel and check device manger. Look for sound device and see if there is an X or ?. X means disabled. ? means driver issue.
Note: make sure your speakers are work or try to connect your head phone to the green female input in the back of the pc or look for a head phone symbol

Open the "Start" menu and click on the
"Control Panel" icon.
Locate and open the icon that deals with sound.
Depending on your version of Windows, it will say either
"Sounds and Audio Devices" or "Adjust System Volume."
Adjust the volume under the "Speakers" icon.
To do this, click on the slider bar and move it up on the
slider.
If you need to decrease the volume, simply move the slider
bar down.
Click on "OK" when finished and close the
"Control Panel" window.
Click on the speaker icon in the bottom-right corner of the
screen for a faster volume adjustment. Simply move the slider bar up to

Be sure the speaker icon below each control is not
accidentally muted.
Click once on each speaker icon to remove the red circle
with a slash through it, which will restore audio.
Click the Microsoft flag or "Start" button in the
lower-left corner if the shortcut speaker icon is missing from the taskbar.

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it you might have to uninstall then reinstall both the sound drivers and the sound card make sure you have both of these devices backed up to a disc before uninstalling a yellow? question mark means you need to install/update driver to do this right click to install driver also click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound,video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? have you tried changing the sounds on your computer if there on 100% then try goig to the menu on your moniter to see if the volume is on 100% if there both are seems like the speakers are broke
check if the monitor speakers are the default speakers for ur computer.. to do so..
click Start.. then under start search type.. Sound.. and hit enter
on this screen u shall be able to see various devices as speakers..
the one with Green check is the default speaker..
select Monitor and select Default below and thts it.. ur done..

if the volume controle is not on the taskbar try to go under controle panel and go to sounds and the adjustments for the speakers will be there. than click on add to taskbar and click apply when finished ok?
