Question about Panasonic AG-6740 VHS/S-VHS playback VCR

1 Answer

How do I remove a stuck tape from a Panasonic AG-6740. I would normally take the VCR to Panasonic in this case - but I need the tape out of the machine to put it into another machine to get it finished before Monday morning?

Tape will not load

Assuming that it's not damaged. The carriage might be out of it's correct position to load the tapes. You need to be certain that it is set up right and not damage. This might require a service manual.

A video tape got stuck in the vcr then.

Sometimes you can pull them out if the tape is not wound around everything. In that case you have to remove the top or back of the unit to get at the tape cassette.

AG-DV1000 Mini DV

The message indicates that an internal problem was detected and that the unit has shut down to prevent damage to the tape. The tape will need to be removed by hand. I can not receommend a repair location without knowing where you are.

Can you post an update with your location?

Thanks,
Dan

Video tape stuck

Unplug the VCR, take the cover off, find the motor (probably on the right side of the mechanism) and turn its shaft with your fingers until you have run the tape back out. Now plug it back in and try it again with a scarificial tape. If it continues to fail, replace all the rubber belts in the mechanism.
Hope ya fix it!

Panasonic AG-DV2000 Mini DV loading problem

the "dv sensor"is actually a mechanical lever built into the cassette housing that moves the reel tables to match the reel spacing on mini or full-size DV tapes. check to see if this assembly is free to move. if it binds up, the reel tables may not move as far as they need to, and can cause problems similar to the one you're seeing. to inspect the mechanism, you need to remove the cassette housing. if you don't have a service manual, get a tech to help -- it's a delicate procedure for the inexperienced.

Stuck tape

If you haven't already done so, don't get overly forceful to avoid bending or breaking something. Often the cassette carriage mechanism is gear driven, and by moving the gear one direction or the other will unload the tape. You may need to disassemble the machine further to gain access to the drive mechanisim. Sometimes the carriage mech. can be entirely removed from the VCR by removing the attachment screws. Other times, these screws are made inaccessible by the tape itself. Look down on the right side of the carriage. If you do remove the carriage, mark the gear positioning first! as the gears must be positioned back exactly as they were from the manufacturer. You might need to employ the services of a technician if things are complicated.
