Washer wont run but is trying to

When i start the washer it makes a humming sound, and smells like electrical burning. If I spin the tub a few times it will start, but when the next cycle is supposed to start it will do the same thing. I then have to turn the tub to get it to do each cycle.

Sounds like the motor or capacitor (next to the motor), the capacitor helps the motor to start, once running a switch inside the motor disconnects the capacitor from circuit.

My whirlpool ultimate careII quiet wash washer stopped working in mid cycle. It won't agitate, drain, spin, fill with water, nothing. The washer makes a humming sound and an electrical burning smell.

If your smelling electrical burn.. It's most likely to be the motor is bad.. Or just stuck, new washers made today are DC motors and contain a circuit board in the motor.. And are not serviceable.. Just replace them..

Washer wont run but is trying to

check the motor for that, there may be smoething stuck ther. for the humming sound, when did this started happening? for the smell, check for frounded wire. for repeating each cycle, try to check for the housing if its still operational because the burnt smell and the cycle repeating is linked.

Maytag legacy series washer

The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.

Top load frigidaire washer will not spin, it agitates, it drains

You need to replace the starter cap on the motor this is why it will not turn and the smell is the cap that's not starting the motor it also will hum.

Washing machine has smell (burning) and doesnt spin or drain tub.

Sounds like the belt may need to be changed. it eh pulley are spinning but the belt is not, nothing will spin and the friction of the pulley against the belt will cause a burning rubber smell

Seized tub - Maytag pavt244aww washer

you may have a seized up pulley on your pump. this will burn the belt. also check the pulley on the end of the motor.

Kenmore direct drive washer - not spinning

While it could be the tranmission, that is a fairly rugged part (although not impossible). More often, you have bad contacts in your timer. These will short together and cause the machine to try and do multiple things at once, thus causing the burning smell. You didn't list a model number, but for most of the Kenmore washers, you can open the console (two phiilips screws on the front or back towards the bottom) to access the timer. Most timers are able to be opened to verify visably black or silver marks on the normally brass colored contacts.

The transmission might have locked up causing the motor to overheat.
