DVD/CD-RW-Device does not read any CD'Rs.

Suddenly DVD/CD-RW-Device does not read any CD'Rs; neither self burned nor bought one's. CD-R seems to be unwritten and a Burnig-Software is opened, but it is definitely empty.

The drive must have "died".

If the computer is still under warranty, contact Toshiba, and get it repaired.

If the warranty has expired, take the computer to a qualified technician, who will remove the dead unit, install a new drive, and reassemble the computer.
Cost will be about $60 for "one-hour-labour", plus the cost of the new drive.

Sorry, but this device is not a DVD-writer.

This device _should_ read (non-blank) DVD media.
If it does not, then the cheapest solution is to spend $40
to buy a new CD/DVD reader/writer.

It is just the next level up from CD Writer, before CD writers would only write (burn, rip) to CD-Rs, but the CD-RW burner can burn information to CD RW discs. But now we have DVD-RWs

Try other burning software if it does not burn, chances are it is reduced to a cd/dvd rom. your burner is out.
