directly connect the dsl modem to your pc and then restart your system. once your up and running the pc should automatically create a connection with the modem device. once you have established an internet connewction this way, shut down the system and reboot. after complete bootup, unplug the power supply cords to both the modem and the router. now plug im the modem, wait 1 minute and plug in the router. after about a minute you should now be able to connect to the internet both by your pc and wireless connections.
Are you getting any error messages? Is your computer plugged directly into a modem, or is it connected directly to a router. Is the computer connecting to the internet using a wireless network card? If connected directly to the modem, shut off the modem, wait a few seconds and restart; also reboot your computer. If that does not work, go into device manager If you're running windows xp - it can be found by going into control panel - system - device manager and see if your network card is listed without any x's or other markings which indicate a problem with the device. If your network card is indicated with no markings, and it is not working, try downloading and reinstalling the drivers for your system's network connection device (you can get that from your system's support page). If your plugged into a router, or if your connecting to the internet via wifi, try shutting off and restarting the router. Reboot your computer and see if that works. If not, you might need to download and install a firmware upgrade for the router. This is relatively simple, and the instructions and appropriate download file can be found at your router manufacturer's support page. Try these and see which works. Good luck!
well that takes 4 basic things,
ISP not down
model show LED online does it.
and router not dead.
and PC not dead.
so connect PC wired ethernet to modem directly
work now?
that ipconfig tells me router is dead, if wired, ethernet.
wifi is last, we work that last not first.
we own a $15 ,15foot ethernet cable for your kit.
or call a tech that has one.
if 2 PC Fail WIRED DIRECT TO ROUTER. THEN ROUTER IS DEAD (LEDS MUST BE LOOKED AT FIRST THERE)
SO WE CALL ISP AND THEY FIX IT , IT IS THEIR ROUTER
ALSO ISP GO DOWN FROM TIME TO TIME.
SO AGAIN MODEM LED SHOW WHAT?
try powering down everything starting with your pc, then the router and modem unplug the router and modem then after its all shut down plug them in in this order, 1st the modem let it boot up wait like a minute then power up the router same thing let it boot and last power up the pc, if this doesnt work try connecting your pc directly to the modem if that works then the problem is in your router if not then the problem is most likely with your ips contact them and ask around if thats the case
power cycle your modem and your router and shut down the pc. before plugging router back in, hold reset button down for 1 min. plug all back in and start pc up. should have connection.
i agree with all the above.. it's definately clear as mud how the network is designed and or funtioning. The machines connected to the wireless d-link router.. are they via cat5 inthe wired ports or wireless ? is the server the machine thats connecting to the switch and wiress router and modem? i'd say reset all switches modems routers and machines.. shut them all down.. then fire the cable modem, then the wireless router then the desktop switch then the server, the workstations and the one lonely wireless.. run "ipconfig /all" on all machines and if they aren't all sharing common ips and access, provide the results here for further investigation.
-- what is the brand of your modem? have you tried connecting your computer directly to the modem and check if you can get online? If yes, Internet connection is fine and the problem is on the router if not, call your ISP first and check your connectivity with them.
-- have you tried connecting your computer directly to the router without connecting the modem to the router and check if you can access the router setup page?there are some cases where in the modem and the router have same IP address that's why you cant access the setup page of the router because of IP Conflict. Try to access the router page , router not connected to the modem only on the computer and change the LAN IP address of the router to 192.168.2.1. Connect the modem to the router and try again to shut down everything and power on the devices one by one and check if you can get online.
-- if after changing the LAN IP address still doesnt work, try to check if you can access the router page by the new IP Address. Make sure that you do not have other firewall or any security enabled on the pc. If yes, try to enable the MAC Address clone on the router and check again the internet connection. Try to configure the router with a diff computer also help isolate the problem
-- if after that and it still not working last option is to upgrade the firmware of the router. possible that there is a problem with the router and upgrading the firmware normally fix internal problem. If that still doesnt work, the router is defective.
Try turning everything off, PC, Router, and Modem. Then turn on the modem, then the router, then the pc. Your modem needn to connect, then the router will be assigned an ip address, then your pc will acquire an ip from the router.
Change the calbe from the router to the dsl modem. Make sure you check labels on the rear of these devices to make sure the connections go where indicated. Is there and ethernet light on your modem. If that is on then the connection is made. Also check if the DSL modem works directly connected to the pc.
