Hi judysimeon

Goto the printer settings page and change the settings to print in black . Normally it is set for color - when color and black will print - You will find the question Print in Color Or Black Each has a check box. Check the box for black. With this setting, everything will print in black including the color text and graphics.
Most printers let you do this. However, some printers keep telling you to replace the color cartridge.

Hope this will work for you.
Good Luck

Is there any way to continue to print in BLACK AND WHITE when he colored ink has run out...((5 of the time I print in B&W

I'm afraid not. Most colour printers print what is known as 4 colour black to give a deeper more solid black, so all the coloured inks as well as black are needed to print a black text or image.

Hardly print in colour but run out of colour ink really quickly.

Really if you know you don't print in colour you can just decide to remove the colour ink from the printer and observe to know if it empties after a while which might mean that it was getting dried up somehow.

Do get back to me over this after you might have tried it out.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya.

Epson sx200 printer, wont print black ink only

Many printers especially Photo ones also use colour even when printing Black. so you do need to replace the spent colour cartridge.

If you only need to print in black get a B&W printer not a colour one.

Black ink not working

Print out a test print to see what comes out. If the printer is printing the black and colour blocks then the printer should be OK. If not then check the black and colour inks to make sure they are OK and remove each of the cartridges and reinstall them. Then run a full cleaning cycle and reprint the test sheet. Keep doing this until all the inks are printing OK. Then run an alignment test making sure that there is plain white paper in the paper tray and adjust the printer as necessary.

Colour Ink Jet Cartridges emptying during a black ink print run

Hi,
If you go to your printer properties, there should be a setting whereby you have to select the option to "PRINT USING BLACK CARTRIDGE ONLY". Make sure this option is selected, otherwise your printer will use ALL colors even if you only print black.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.
Best wishes,

Have changed Ink Black and Colour... Stil getting error Message.

Make sure the tape covering the hole on the bottom of the black cartridge is removed. and then go into the printers folder and right click on your printer icon and go into the properties of that printer and there should be something in there to tell it that you changed cartridges and you can also print a test page as well.

Black colour ?

Thats because it's using the other colours to mix what it thinks to be shades of grey. Due to the black ink being pigment based and the colours inks dye base, when printing onto glossy paper the machine will use the colour dye based inks to make up black.
If you were to print on plain paper, set to greyscale, then the machine will just use the black as the pigment ink sits onto of the plain paper and will not run should the paper get wet.  With glossy paper the ink has to be absorbed into the paper ad the Black pigment ink will not do this so the machine will use the coloured inks.

Sucks but true.

Printing photos

its ok I solved it! I didn't realise that all the photo cartridge does is gloss over the colour picture produced by the colour cartridge. I simply had to replace the colour cartridge which had run out, so now its all working perfectly!!
