The drum is driven by a belt attached to the motor. In order for the drum to turn freely, it is SUPPORTED by a rollers. One of these rolers may be broken (cracked or split) so the drum is not equally supportedon all sides.

If you open the machine up - you'll see it. Depending on the particular brand sometimes there a set 0of rollers in the front AND back, sometimes just the front - with the back supported by a central pivot.

I hope this helps

Need to replace back left rear wheel studs...3 out of 4 are broken. How difficult is this? Should I just purchase another drum? Is the drum difficult to get off and install for a want to be mechanic?

drum is not hard to get off and install
no dont buy another drum
once you remove drum, you can just knock the broken studs out with a hammer and punch
to install new studs, just tap them into place with a hammer. the studs go in from the inside of drum.happy mechanicing

Into the spin dry cycle a loud hammering noise appears. Immediately goes away when powered off and drum speed drops. Can you please advise. Regards Geoff

Hi,

When my washer did that, I found that the shocks that hold the tub were bad...

Check out this tip I wrote about the noise and vibration that front load washers can make..

The bolt broke off with the lug nut. how to take out the old bolt.

If it is like a VW Jetta lug bolt, soak it with PB Blaster.
Take a sharp center punch and a heavy ball pien hammer and drive the broken threaded portion the bolt in the direction it goes to remove the bolt. Hold the center punch at appor 60 degree angle to the plane of the drum or disk and hammer away.
If it is a splined threaded bolt soak it with PB Blaster and drive it out from the back side of the drum or disc. Use a pin punch or rod or old bolt slightly smaller then the splined broken off portion and hammer away.

Above proccdure saves my bacon countless times!
Good luck

My Whirlpool front load washer is out of balance when spinning. It makes a loud noise. How do I get the tub back in balance? GHW9200LQ is the model.

Hi,
Whirlpool front load washers have shock absorbers that helps them in moving the washer around the place. Due to regular usage of the washer it may tend to break. This will result in drum hammering sound . To clear this problem pull the bottom front off and check the shocks. Typically the rings where the pins go through are where they will break. You have to grab them and should have a complete check by moving them to see that whether they are broken.
Thank you !!

Orange light on drum. drum making a loud hammering sound when printer is put on or attempting to print.

Sounds like a broken drum drive gear. Try another known good drum assembly first. Parts can be googled and found. But, difficult for end user to replace. You have to remove all covers and fuser asm. Then gear housing from the left side to change the drum drive gear.

How do i remove the brake drum on my 1996 dodge caravan

You remove the tire/wheel assembly and pull it off. Make sure you have removed the factory installed wheel lock tabs on your studs if they are still there.Discard them because they're not needed.

Something stuck in drum, spinning cycle loud hammering/clacking sound

hi there,

sounds like you may have something caught between the tumbler and the cabinet. since the drum has holes in it, can you have a look if you can see anything that's come of clothing, like a bra wire. it's usually something bigger.
