WD My Book Essential Edition 500 GB Exetrnal Hard disk , Intalling problems

Hello.. i bought this
WD 500 GB Exetrnal Hard disk USB2.0 few days ago.. USB2.0
And im faceing a problem installing it.. it should install by it self when connecting to the PC as they said...

But when i connect it some times says " Uknown Device" Some times "Pritning Support" and im using windows XP.. i had VISTA... but i formated to Windows XP cause they said it will work on XP... i thought that was the problem...

When i get in the BIOS page.. and selecting a boot device.. i can see the

My book home edition,in "my computer" "F" says disk not formated

The poewr supplies are horrible in this brand, I had to remove two WD drives from the external cases and install them internally to access the data, even when the fan and lights would come on. try to test the drive internally in a desktop, and then you can back up the contents as well

My Book Essential Edition, can't get data but know is there hope

Hi There, Don't know if this will help ?. I have My Book Ess-Edit 500. I bought it six months ago. (it has a blue light which moves up & down when on) Anyway here goes. you don't have to safely remove my book as it turns on & off with your PC. Was your pc on when you pulled the plug? IF SO YOU MAY BE IN THE S***. with my book turned on, Try from start xp / flag Vista. / Computer/ highlight WD mybook / right clik open, in list you should see whats on your my book, folders & so on.
(you seem to be looking for your pic's). highlight folders/ right clik open/ you can restore a file from the list by, again highlight/ then right click/ from list pick (send to) Documents. From there you can copy / paste to pictures. Hope this helps ? Steve 105
