Re: while watching tv half the screen goes black
Hi Depending on which section of the screen goes black ( top or bottom ) this is down to your Y buffer boards, these with the back of your tv are on the very far left hand side ( long and rectangular in shape and connect to your screen. Depending on top or bottom remove the one that is faulty and get the part number of it then Google or Ebay for a relpacement. Hope this helps

This seems to be a problem with some older panels. If you are prepared to tackle the problem yourself then try the following.
WARNING there are some very high voltages within the TV which can be LETHAL so the greatest of care should be taken.
With the back of the TV removed, use a hair dryer and apply warm air to all the ribbon cables in turn until you find the one which causes the fault to disappear. Now turn your attention to the faulty ribbon and remake the connections as necessary.
I have a panasonic TH-42PX60U plasma TV. When I watch TV programing I have no problems, or with the DVD input. But if I switch to another input, be it video game (PS2) or vcr the screen sometimes goes black and the red power lcd light next to the power switch flashes. Holding the power button in for a few seconds will shut down the tv. Then I can turn it back on and it may operate normally again for a undetermined period of time, before the screen goes black again. This never happened when new. The tv is about 1 year old. Any ideas on this problem? Thanks Ernie
Question when u loose picture do u loose sound also ? If so there is an 27Mhz xtal on the (SSB) small signal board that needs to be changed when it heats up it cycles out of phase. when it cools down it will work again till it heats up.
This is a simple and common problem. The solder joints on the vertical output IC have cracked loose. I actually did a housecall on the exact same set with the exact same symptoms this morning! A good tech will resolder the pins of the vertical output IC and all other major solder joints on the main board and the set will play fine.
