DVDs start and stop randomly

After two years of minimal use, my PET724 suddenly started to make squealling noises like a belt is slipping in addition to 'churning' sounds. DVDs now are starting to stop and start at random intervals. Any ideas what is the matter and how to fix it?

Definitely sounds as if your DVD is going bad. You can purchase a new internal DVD player for your laptop from most computer stores for between $30 - $60.00 depending on the brand and the read/write speed. Installation is simple and directions should be able to be found in your user manual.

Dryer starts then makes aweful noise then stops timer keeps ticking then when you try to start it again it doesnt do anything

If it is a grinding noise then it is probably a bad bearing. If it is more a squell it could be the belt slipping in addition to a bad bearing. If it is a banging sound it could be the belt.

2006 grand vitara, making sudden loud screechy sound, & lost power steering, when a/c is off, power steering is restored..

Sounds like the serpentine belt is slipping and perhaps struggling to turn pullies.. this would result in horrid squealling noises especially in cold damp weather and loss of power steering ability when A/C is on

(A/C on equals extra strain on the belts grip, when turned off the A/C pulley spins freely hence less strain)

Whine/high pitch noise from under hood '00 Explorer

Sounds like your tensioner and belt are both going bad together and need replaced. The tensioner pulls the belt tight to hold enough tension for the belt not to slip, but the belt once it has slipped gets "burned" or slick and slips anyway. When the A/C is engaged it has alot of pull on the belt and slips causing the sound most likely. When belt is off check other bearings for noise to make sure that is your only issue. If one starts to go the others may not far behind.

Your alternator belt must be glazed or loose or both (hence the low volts), replace it or adjust it if it looks ok.
As far as the ticking goes it is the the cam followers, there is a TSB SB00-01-S009 released SEP 2000 that deals with this issue, I beleive it calls for replacing the cam followers with an improved part, this would be expensive like all Japanese cars the parts are very pricey.

Phillips portable player PET724

I had the same problem with my PET724. I tried cleaning the lens, letting the battery run dead, even beating on it but nothing worked. When I was cleaning the lens again with some cleaning agent I accidentally slid the laser head as far away from the center as it would go. When I loaded another disc it has worked fine ever since. I have played at least two dozen discs so far with no problem.

Hope this helps.
